There are a few places that do it, including where you are going Face. I am keeping everything crossed for you

BartletForAmerica · 09/07/2012 16:41

Glad you are feeling positive about things, cartoon.

Gosh, private fertility treatment is expensive! Obviously solars won't need it as AF will be staying away - still brooking.

maybe, given my line of work, I was a little, em, surprised at the idea of someone massaging your pituitary gland. What is that supposed to do? I hope it is relaxing anyway!

Although I have been being very helpful to poor burnt out souls elsewhere and not doing ANY troll hunting, no sirree elsewhere, I've been avoiding this thread so I don't mental too much. Symptoms come and go. At the moment, I'm feeling very sick, so I am being a Bad Mother and DS is sitting next to me in bed watching Postman Pat (he is a shockingly bad postman!). Scan next week and we'll see how things are going then, so I won't be around much but I am lurking and brooking.

GenericDietCola · 09/07/2012 18:42

Cartoon glad you are taking action and feeling a bit better. Brooking that it all goes well and you don't have to go through this again.

Solars I am still brooking for you too. And I am outraged that you are being denied IVF due to your age. Fertility treatment seems to vary so much across the country, which seems to unfair given that we have bodies like NICE to try to standardise things and stop 'postcode prescribing' as it used to be called. It might be worth looking up the NICE guidance on fertility treatment to see if it specifies an upper age limit - I seem to remember hearing recently that this was being recommended to be increased to 43 or something. Maybe a letter to your Hospital Trust quoting these might help (if I'm right).

Bartlet I'm glad to hear you are feeling sick! Well actually I'm not as I know how unpleasant it is (I think it's tailing off here, but I still feel nauseous every day - yuck!). When's your first scan? Brooking that all is well with miniBartlet.

GenericDietCola · 09/07/2012 18:45

Hmm looks like the NICE guidelines are due to be published in October, but they have published a news article hinting that the age limit is to be increased http://www.nice.org.uk/newsroom/news/MoreReceiveIVFUnderDraftFertilityGuidelines.jsp

GenericDietCola · 09/07/2012 18:45

Dammit, was trying to do a fancy link there - oh well!

Imps7 · 09/07/2012 18:56

I saw an interview with Lord Winston, the human reproduction legend, about the news that menopause could soon be delayed indefinitely thanks to medical advances and he was strongly of the view that women in their mid-50s are not too old to be mothers considering how much healthier women are now and how much longer they are living for. I hope the NHS do revise their policy as it is very outdated.

Solars, am v much thinking of you and hoping you are okay. Don't rule a natural BFP out, but if you do go ahead with private treatment there is the possibility at some clinics (maybe even all) to get free treatment if you donate eggs at the same time. I don't know where you stand on that but it may be something you would want to look into.

Imps7 · 09/07/2012 18:58

Oh I don't mean to suggest that you are mid 50s Solars, I was just trying to put in context the arbitrary cut off point for treatment Grin

TheLittleFriend · 09/07/2012 19:20

bartlet I am also being a shocking mum at the moment. DD is watching far too much tv, but I just have no energy for anything.

Scan is 5.30 tomorrow so don't expect an update early brookers. But fx pleased [ smile]. Love to all xx

TheLittleFriend · 09/07/2012 19:23

btw bartlet, just read your response on the CBFM thread about RM not sending to burnt out houses and nearly wet myself laughing. I wished there was a like button!

BartletForAmerica · 09/07/2012 21:07
Grin
Imps7 · 09/07/2012 22:26

Ooooh Little good luck I'll be brooking for you all day long!

keepitgoing · 09/07/2012 22:30

Just read nice guidelines in prep for tomorrow's appt. Oh god there are so many potential things wrong...

little is this your first scan? Good luck!

solars am so sorry about the ivf thing, but am sure you will come up with a plan b, hopefully a bfp in a day or two like smegs

face good on you being proactive. I hope all is well, or something v small that is easily fixed. That is pricey, though.

imps my dh is a result of lord Winston! My mil saw him 30 years ago when they were having probs, he's not sure what Lord W actually did, but I gotta live him! Grin

keepitgoing · 09/07/2012 22:31

Love him, even.

SecretSparkle · 10/07/2012 06:58

I officially hate temping!!! My temps make no sense this month they're all over the place!! Will continue trying to dtd eod though just in case but surely if I've OV'd it would've happened by now given that my peak was on Friday HmmHmm

Imps7 · 10/07/2012 07:47

Keep good luck for today. What time is your appt?

Sparks sometimes those pesky temps will just not do as they're told. Link to your chart?

Can I ask mingling question? If you have pant snot which is stretchy like EWCM but cloudy/slightly yellow rather than transparent, is that fertile CM or not?

NoMaybeAboutIt · 10/07/2012 09:53

Hmm, I would say possibly Imps Though I would not bring this up when mingling Wink

Good luck today Keep what time are you up? I am keeping everything crossed.

Sparks maybe you are coming down with something? Or the stress with your Nana?

Bartlet I too was a little Shock when she said about massaging my pituitary. Given I am a neuroscientist I was a tad worried!! But it was basically a massage of all my facial bones and palate to 'open it up'. It was a weird sensation, for an hour after, I felt like my head was twice as big as it should be.

Oh and Little and Bartlet you are far from bad mothers. Tea, toast, bed and CBeebies for all me thinks Smile

How are you doing Gen?

ScarlettInSpace · 10/07/2012 12:30

keep good luck for your appt - I'm at 2pm, I've got my list of questions ready! Hopefully this one will be more positive than the last one and I manage not to blub everywhere Grin

Imps7 · 10/07/2012 12:35

Oooooh Scarlett didn't realise you had an appt today - please let us know how it goes.

Oops Maybe!!! Maybe Whims toddler was asking those sorts of questions which is why his mingling caused so much offence Grin

ScarlettInSpace · 10/07/2012 12:44

ta imps - I think it was saying 'hello' that whims little man's caused offence with whilst mingling, although discussing snot of any kind probably wouldn't help...

Solars · 10/07/2012 13:37

Hello!

A little bit more time to catch up with you all today

Keep, Scarlett & Little good luck with your respective appointments and scans! Brooking for you all!

Cartoon lovely to see you are feeling more positive about things

Waves to Bartlet and thanks for the brooking.

Thanks for the shoulder too Maybe

I feel really awful today, I couldn't sleep for worrying about turning 40 and still not pregnant and mine and DH's younger siblings all trying for their third kids. Still no AF here and it's CD33, just a little spotting on wiping this morning but I did a test and BFN. I know AF will eventually turn up just wish she would hurry up and get here so I can properly move onto the next cycle! I was wondering if the acupuncture has made my af late?? The longest it's ever been is 35 days and that's only happened twice in the last 2 years.

Gen, Imps DH and I read an article a couple of months ago about raising the age limit to 42 for IVF but it wasn't clear if/when that would get implemented but I fear we may miss that boat too. I feel a little annoyed with our gynae clinic who have cancelled our appointments a few times over the last year and can't help but think that perhaps they could have put our application in a lot sooner so we wouldn't have missed out! The letter from the hospital has said we can write to our pct via our GP so we may well do that, so Gen that NICE document you linked will be useful. In the meantime we may start the ball rolling to be seen privately. Imps thanks for reminding me of the donor eggs option, that's something else we can discuss too.

Hope everyone else is well x

keepitgoing · 10/07/2012 13:38

hi everyone - am back from the clinic. I cried on the nurse, oops, as she was so nice and asked me if i'm ok.
So the consultant said that DH's sperm are borderline, he has 4% normal forms but v high count, she said they say anything above 5% is ok. She has asked him to do another one as the other two were only a month apart.

she did a manual check of me and said all seemed ok, and i have a 'lovely' cervix... I have to have an HSG and an ultrasound. Trouble is i'm cd4 and supposed to ring on cd1. And am moving to thailand before next month. She said they might fit me in this month, but otherwise we will try and go private before we go.

She said if there's nothing wrong with me then she recommends we just keep trying for the year we're away, as i am 'very young' (30 just about). She said we could do IUI but it's not funded here, and IVF is only funded after 3 years for unexplained.

All in all, as expected, i was vv nervous and did not like all the pregnant women wandering about while we were waiting. But wish we weren't moving to thailand quite yet, it's most convenient.

I have to phone them to book the hsg and u/s but i just did and they haven't had her request through yet. She said phone again tomorrow but i think i'll do it later today as the consusltant promised to do it asap.

Feel exhausted now!

Solars · 10/07/2012 13:46

Keep brooking you get that appointment asap

keepitgoing · 10/07/2012 16:07

yay - i have HSG booked for the 19th, and u/s for the 27th!
loving the NHS today

Imps7 · 10/07/2012 16:21

Oh yay Keep!! That's super efficient - v pleased for you!

ScarlettInSpace · 10/07/2012 16:40

keep me too Grin

Wow what a difference a consultant makes! She was brilliant. It was obvious she had read my email & my notes, she went through all my results and what they mean, also how she would interprete them, and answered all the questions I'd raised in my email. She completely disagreed with the previous guy [without saying that in so many words] and when I asked what he had based his prognosis of
