Hi, sorry this is abit long just want you to get the full story....
So on the 9th March i got told the devastating news that i was miscarrying my baby although they could not see anything on the trans vaginal scan so they think i was only a couple of weeks into pregnancy.
I had not had a period since the miscarriage and i foiund out last monday i was pregnant again by an unconnected trip to hospital, so i was sent for a dating scan and they said i was 15 weeks 2 days from the measurements of the baby, i was over moon, however i thought about this and worked it out and this means i concieved on 10th March, and this cannot be possible as i was still bleeding (sorry tmi) at this time!
Now people are saying there is a possibility that i was carrying twins (there are multiples in my family) and i lost one and have one surviving twin?! Is this possible and my dates and measurements are just off because off this?!
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?
Thanks in advance. Toni x

Usually dating scans can be out by a few days rarely more - at least that is what I've always been informed.

congratulations btw Smile

Various possibilities...

  1. Scan can be out, but usually only a few days.
  2. Yes, it is possible to lose one twin.
  3. It is possible to ovulate quite quickly after an mc. Depending on when your mc bleeding started it could be a second pregnancy. I definitely ovulated 10 days after my erpc, when I was still bleeding.
4 have you had a scan to confirm your new pregnancy. If not this could be a false positive due to lingering pregnancy hormones and possibly retained products.

Thankyou :)
Oh yess ive had a scan and i saw my liccle baby there wiggeling his/her little bum :) this where it was said i was 15 weeks and 2 days!!
he/she did look quite large compared to my daughter (who is now 10 months) on her 12 week scan! Although obviously i just went with what the sonographer said! I have my anomoly scan booked for next month so i cud ask then if they think my dates are right i guess! I was just confused as obviously i knew i didnt have sex on 10th march as i was still losing my other baby!! Thanks for all ypur advice xxx

When pregnant with DD I had a second dating scan as I moved house and the new hospital insisted on doing a second scan. Their dating scan gave me a due date 2 weeks later than the first one - it was 15 years ago though, so perhaps scan accuracy has improved. Also both my Mum and my Aunt miscarried one of twins, and continued to full term with the other, so that's definitely possible.

I would go with the twins theory too. No advice but just wanted to say that such a happy ending to a tragic story best of luck x

They date by first day of last period so you would have conceived 13 weeks ago (just in case you're counting back all the way). Yes, it's possible you lost a twin and also it's possible to get pregnant very quickly after a miscarriage. Dates are rarely out by more than a few days, normal babies have pretty consistent growth until the third trimester, they also look at development, not just size.

The fact that my baby's fingers had separated made the sonographer decide it was slightly under 50th centile and a little bit older (by almost a week) than its length suggested.
