Clomid and Multiples

Hi all, I have PCOS and start my first cycle of Clomid tomorrow. Although I'm excited I'm also a bit anxious at the prospect of potentially conceiving twins. This is mainly because I have been ovulating naturally for the last 3 months (I have long anovultory cycles usually). My concern is, is there any chance I could ovulate naturally and then have Clomid stimulate ovulation therefore releasing 2 eggs!?! After 13 months of trying, i can't really take the risk of not taking the Clomid just in
case I don't ovulate.

Any experiences/advice would be really welcome :)

Hi Mooley,

According to the fertility clinic I am at, there's an 8% chance of multiples on Clomid, of which the vast majority are twins. I've also heard 10%. So higher than for an unmedicated cycle, but not hugely high.

Good luck!

I conceived all three of my (single) Children on Clomid.
I know I ovulated at least twice in the years TTC period prior to conceiving DS1 as I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks and blood tests during subsequent TTC investigation indicated so again (back in 2002 the then Consultant was happy to dish the Clomid out like smarties as a first step - it did the trick first cycle).

After six months of trying for DS2 I got the remaining Clomid out of my med cupboard as would have taken an age to go through the whole process again and it worked first cycle - not sure if I was ovulating - this may seem ignorant now but the first time Consultant was very blase about any risks and DS2 was worth it :o
Obviously by the time we began trying for DS3 the remaining Clomid was out of date and I wanted to be checked out anyway as older etc.

The investigations (blood tests day 2 & 21, DH Semen Analysis and HsG for Me) found nothing wrong and Consultant refused to prescribe Clomid as a cure all - we went back to our GP as a last ditch attempt before we 'shut up shop' as to go to our Local Private Hospital we would have had the same Consultant with her 'Private' Hat on so outcome would have been the same - GP wrote to a different consultant who decided that in their opinion it would do no harm - Bob's your Uncle, Fanny's Your Aunt after four straight years of trying DS3 was conceived 3 cycles in on Clomid.
Anyhoo my point is I did not have any twins and apparently I ovulate at least some of the time.

I also took clomid and only had one baby. the hospital said not to wory about multiples as the chance is only slightly higher as mentioned above. at that point to be honest i wouldn't have minded twins just having a baby/babies
good luck
