Hi Everyone

Iv just joined mums net and all the lingo is very confusing 😳 lol can someone help??

I got married in April this year and me an the OH have decided to try for a baby 😃 I had my coil removed middle of May an have had my first period since having it removed. I have an app on my phone to track my periods (sad I know lol) and it says I will be ovulating on Saturday! How reliable are these apps?? ( my coil was copper so it's just my hormones an natural periods)

Any help would be most useful as I really can't wait to get pregnant!!!

Thanks xx

Hi jen! Unfortunately I have no experience of the coil or apps but didn't want you to go lonely in here! I've been around a couple of week so still learning everything too but I have found a new home in the TTC %231 thread which you can find on the board somewhere. Lots of helpful, friendly people. If its not your first there are threads fro %232, %233 etc.

I'm sure someone more helpful will be along soon though!

Hi, saw this post on another site by a natural ertility expert, its on how to know when you are fertile (not quite as technical as your app) but is quite interesting, I have attached the link at the end for you see if it helps? good luck anyway xx

Hi Jen,

I'm on a long term TTCers thread, so am pretty down with the lingo if you have any specific questions. I'm doing my very first 'proper' chart this month and I use the Fertility Friends app. I wish I had started to use this when I was TTC at the start because I would be so much more informed about my cycles now and I may not have been TTC for so long... but that's another story and I won't bore you with my woes here :)

Anyway, I would recommend the following:

  • 'The Bible- not the religious one but a book called Taking Control of Your Fertility
  • A thermometer to work out when you are actually ovulating (those apps work on the basis that you will ov (ovulate) in the middle of your cycle. This is not the case for me and I went over a year thinking that I didn't ov, when actually I ov between days 16 - 18.
  • cheap ovulation predictor strips (OPKS) - I bought 50 for £7 on Amazon and use them for all wees on days when I start to get EWCM
  • lots and lots and lots and lots of sex
  • some patience and luck! Wink

Have you been to your GP to check that your STD checks and smear are up to date and that you rubella immunisation is ok? Again, these are things that I've only had checked recently but should have been checked at the beginning.

Also, I'm currently under the care of nutritionist for my problems so I've had some pretty heavy conversations about mineral ratios and non inflammatory foods and what to eat for preconception care. However, as you have had a copper coil you may want to consider some zinc supplements to balance out your zinc-copper ratio. Zinc is also great for sperm, so you might want to get some down your husband. The coil / pill can leave excess amounts of copper in your body. Your zinc-copper ratio is important for hormone production. Copper is a great at stopping you to get pregnant and zinc is really important for all sorts of reproductive functions but the two need to work in tandem and need to be balanced. You may and I say may have an imbalance due to the copper contained in your coil.

Of course, you may just get upduffed in the next month without a sniff of any of the above TTC apparatus. But this would be my list of suggestions. Any questions re confusing things that you may see like CD1 (cycle day 1), EWCM (egg white cervical mucus), ERTD (evil red tide of doom a.k.a. AF - aunt flo a.k.a. your period) give me a shout.

Best of luck xxx
