On what cd do you ovulate?

Hi,
We are trying to conceive our first. This month I've been using ovulation test sticks from d11 - d19 (well, I missed out one day by mistake) and so far all have been negative. I'm hoping I started testing too late.
So, To get an idea of different cycle types, would you mind sharing the cd you ovulate on please?

Thanks

I have heard that ovulation sticks are very unreliable, they only give a positive result if you test within 2 hours of ovulation. Pure luck to catch a postive result. Or so i have been told.

I personally had no luck with the ovulation sticks, but in answer to your question. I ovulate on day 17.

Pipbin · 17/06/2012 14:20

I found I had to do a lot of trial and error to get a positive ovulation stick. I found that for me it had to be the second wee of the day.
For example, on Sunday I tested my first wee of the day and although it was dark it wasn't quite dark enough. I then had a shower and forced out a wee after the shower. That one was positive. It was only a time difference of 10 minutes between tests.

In answer to your question between day 18 and 23

HaveALittleFaith · 17/06/2012 17:15

I usually ovulate between cd10 and 15 with an average 27 day cycle.

I never had a clear positive with the cheap Internet tests but have had more joy with the clearblue smiley faces.

Day 12. Used Boots test, got a positive first test, got pregnant that week. This was after a number of months tracking using an app and CM and TTC too late each time. So well worth it

Longtallsally · 17/06/2012 17:21

I had the same experience as you - couldn't find my day, but conceived twice on day 4 of my cycle, so guess that I must be day 3, 4 or 5 - hadn't been testing that early.

brighthair · 17/06/2012 17:25

Same as HaveaLittleFaith

Day 10 - 15 for me
I get pain though, and I know which side it is!

OvO · 17/06/2012 17:25

Day 18.

I never had a + on ov sticks. But was definitely ovulating. I wouldn't rely on them at all.

eurochick · 17/06/2012 18:49

Days 13-17 for me.

The ov sticks work very well for me (I use the clearblue smiley face ones). I have had a positive every cycle I have used them, but you do need to use them every day. Most months I only get one positive and it has gone by the following day. I temp and I ov somewhere between the same day I get a positive and 48 hrs later, so they definitely don't only give you a positive within 2 hrs of ov.

MissMedusa · 17/06/2012 19:27

Day 16. This cycle I got a positive when I tested late afternoon on Day 14 which was gone by the time I tested the next morning.

SweetieDoesIt · 17/06/2012 19:31

It is such a black art. I use the internet cheapie OPK sticks and get a faint line anywhere from day 9 to day 12. I have only once had a smile on the clear blue digital ones.

I do temp too so I know that I get a temp rise anytime between day 9 and day 13, although usually I think ovulation is day 10 or 11.

What length is your cycle? as you might have started testing a bit late.

MeanMrsMustard · 17/06/2012 19:55

Thanks all. I wasn't expecting such early and late ovulation days. I must be even more clueless than I thought.
My cycle is 29/ 30 days. When I was a teen it used to be 12 days long. Ive never bled for longer than 2 days but I sometimes get a slightly bloody discharge mid cycle. (around about the time of my old 12 day period). There were a few days this month when I felt like I might be getting ovulation pains, but I ignored it due to negative stick tests. I thought they were accurate! Blush
I will obviously have to do more research.

Day 18-25. good luck!

Kaloobear · 17/06/2012 21:16

Day 21-25 and I usually have a 35 day cycle.

Pipbin · 18/06/2012 22:15

Observing cervical mucus is always a good way to check too.

wilderumpus · 19/06/2012 19:56

I ov on day 20 of a 32 day cycle. I get EWCM and a pos internet cheapie opk to say am ov'ing! For me the morning (around 11am) is the best time for testing on the opk, and when it gets to day 17 I start testing twice a day in case I miss the surge - tho generally my surges last for 24 hours.

I wouldn't rely on opks to dictate dtd though - just shag a lot (took me a few months to work this out hence knowing my cycle info so well!)

good luck!

lotsofcheese · 19/06/2012 22:51

I have short cycles (23-26 days) & have always got pregnant on days 8-10.

I used cheapie Internet sticks, however with such regular cycles I probably don't need to.

I wouldn't rely on them as a sole means of getting pregnant (I mean, apart from the shagging of course!! Wink)

If you're determined to get pregnant quickly, my advice would be to DTD every 2nd day, starting from the end of your period - once the opk is positive you can DTD again, then have a break or take it easier for the rest of the month.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you wait for the OPK, you may be too late as it takes a while for the hormone to show in the urine.

Good luck!! Xx
