If you conceived DC1 in your first cycle of ttc, how long did it take you with DC2?

Is this even the right place to post this or are most people on here still busy ttc their first? Anyway...

I'm a compulsive planner, had DC1 4.5 months ago and for various reasons it would be ideal if I had a second baby in either January or February 2014, which means I'd have to get pregnant in April/May next year. I fell pregnant during our first cycle of ttc last time when I was 27, so will be 29 next year. I know you can't plan these things so I'm wondering what to do for the best. I seem to remember that loads of people find conceiving a second baby hard.

So, if you got pregnant straight away the first time, how long did it take the second time?

3 years so far. I'm older than you though which is obviously significant.

Most people I know though have around 2/3 years between their dcs. It's not a common problem.

First cycle with DC1 (29) and Fifth cycle with DC2 (33). But, how long us a piece of string, right? Smile

GreyTS · 14/06/2012 23:07

First cycle with DD1 (I was 30), first try again a year later, miscarried then first cycle again with DD2 (I was 32). Thought first time was a fluke, obviously not.

DanceToTheIslandBeat · 14/06/2012 23:11

First pregnancy was first cycle bit was sadly ectopic, so dd1 was tricky to conceive in the aftermath - 8 cycles think. dd2 was cycle 1 too. So I think our general fertility stayed the same when unfettered by drugs etc.

I think having a general aim is ok but planning to the degree you're talking about would be too pressurised for me. Good luck.

1st with DC1, 3rd with DC2. I have had other pregnancies inbetween, and concieved either accidently, or first time in the case of planned pregnancies.

This baby took me the longest, but it was after being on long term contraception, and I was ovulating slightly earlier in my cycle.

EmmaCate · 14/06/2012 23:15

First with DS (age 34), second with DD (age 35).

Dinosaurdrip · 15/06/2012 02:05

First with ds1 I was 26, first with ds2 when I was 27, 2nd with 3rd when I was 30 ended in mc. 3rd cycle after mc with 4th at age 31 now 12 weeks pg.

Dinosaurdrip · 15/06/2012 02:05

OOps sorry suddenly realised you were asking about 2nd time around.

jaggythistle · 15/06/2012 04:16

2 cycles first time and 11 very impatient ones next time!

randomimposter · 15/06/2012 05:06

have been pregnant 7 times. 3 of those on first cycle, but two ended in MMC. But i'm much older than you. Would echo what's been said about trying not to put too much pressure on yourselves though. I was very focused on trying to have as small an age gap as possible. After 5 mcs trying for number 2 i'm just happy there's any kind of gap at all. Good luck when you do start ttc again.

moreyear · 15/06/2012 05:42

Older than you but first cycle miscarriage, first cycle chemical pregnancy, first cycle -ds1 and first cycle - due in 2 weeks. With dc2 as I was getting older I mentally allowed a year to get pregnant and started trying a bit earlier than I would have ideally wanted - hence it was quite a shock. :)

CaringMum28 · 22/06/2012 23:14

I'm similar age-
25 -1st cycle but has mc at 5wks
26- 1st cycle
27- 1st cycle

1st with DC1. 5th with DC2... BFP this morning! If its that important, try a Clear Blue Fertility Monitor... it took that for us as we were too knackered to manage it every other day during the whole "fertility window", but at least with CBFM we definitely managed it on the day I ovulated.

SilentMammoth · 23/06/2012 22:36

First cycle with first four pregnancies. Third cycle with dc 4.

LimeLeafLizard · 24/06/2012 09:35

1st cycle with DC1
13th cycle with DC2
1st cycle with DC3
6th cycle with DC4 (now pg)

5madthings · 24/06/2012 09:45

i got pregnant the first cycle with all 5 of mine, also had 2 miscarriages one an accidental pregnancy, the other a planned pregnancy where i had got pregnant the first month, but miscarried early and was then pregnant again before my next period.

CoteDAzur · 24/06/2012 09:49

DC1 conceived in 1st cycle (I was 33)
DC2 conceived in 1st cycle (I was 37)

Fwiw, women I know who have problems conceiving DC2 have had miscarriages after DC1.

CoteDAzur · 24/06/2012 09:50

Congratulations WhatwillSantabring Smile

5madthings · 24/06/2012 09:54

i had a miscarriage after ds1 and then conceived straight away with ds2, then had a miscarriage inbetween no 2 and no 3.

its very random i think and just pot luck!

and yes congratulations whatwillsantabring, wishing you an easy, healthy pregnancy :)

NinjaChipmunk · 24/06/2012 10:51

I got pg first month with ds when I was 32. Then took 19 months, a referral to fertility clinic, many bloods tests, sperm assessments and an hsg to fall pg with dc2 who is due this week. I'm now 37. Oh and all the tests showed I was in good health with excellent results as did dp's sa's.
