OPK sensitivity query

If an opk has a sensitivity level of, say, 20miu, does that mean that the test will only turn positive once 20miu is reached, or rather than you will get a (non-positive) line once you get to 20miu, but that you need higher levels to get a positive??

Basically - if I get a faint line, can I assume that my lh levels are already at 20miu or can I only assume this once I get a positive?

Sorry I can't answer on the sensitivity of opks but I know for most of the month you do see two lines.

When I use them I get a dark control line and a faint line for the lh (the test line). Just before I ovulate I get a really dark lh line and a control line.

I think the body always has a low level of lh so a faint line on an opk is not positive only a very dark test line is positive.

Hope that helped.

Hi. I hope you don't mind if I ask something too. How about when the line is half dark? This is what happens to me at first - half the line goes darker than the control line and the next day the whole thing goes dark. Is the half line a positive result?

wilderumpus · 14/06/2012 11:10

ocean I am not sure that is matters what miu you have? An opk is very simpe - it is only ever positive with two dark lines, but you will often see fainter lines throughout your cycle. hth?

hee the thick lines are the only positive. The one dark side is a lucky indicator that you will start surging soon :) not everyone gets this!

I'm actually doing some thinking around the use of an opk as an hpt....

I was wondering whether, if your opk has a lower sensitivity than your hpt (20 miu rather than 25 for example), a faint line on an opk would show hpt building (making the huge assumption that it was showing hpt - I realise it can also show lh) and therefore an hpt level already at the 20miu, or whether you couldn't assume this until it went positive..

Just some perusals to while away the next four days until I can test ;)

HeeHee - there's no clear answer I'm afraid - see www.peeonastick.com/opkfaq.html#13

a high sensitivity pg test will show you are pg sooner than a OPK. superdrug own or frer should see you right. Are you getting positive opks now? If so this could mean your egg is not getting out the of starting gate yet and so you have a hormonal imbalance (not a big deal necessarily, this happened to me after breastfeeding then sorted itself out next cycle) and are yet ot ov, OR you could be pg from your previous cycle (not this one, it wouldn't work that fast!).

anyway, POAS is a fine website, should answer your queries a-ok :)

No - no positive opk: was just wondering since I've sworn not to test until my period is late so have no hpts in the house :)

lol, best get a HPT if you are going to cave and test than rely on an opk! Grin nothing wrong with testing early, as long as after 10dpo... but I am the same this month, have no hpts in the house and will not test till am late :) (won't use my opks tho!)

Good luck ocean

I have used it as a pg test indicator, waiting for af to return after breast feeding and thought maybe should have had af, did opk test first as had one in the house, +Ive went and got a cb and yes was pg, not sure if they would be more sensitive but it does work! ;)
