TTC after an MMC and ERPC - how soon?

Hi, I have just found out I have had my second MMC (one June 2011 at 11+4), this time I am 8+4. I have an ERPC booked next wed and want to TTC again as soon as possible after the ERPC. I'm 42 and have one Ds age 5, for whom Dh and I would desperately love a sibling (as well as desperately wanting another child ourselves), so time is not on my side.

I've heard that fertility is often very good straight after a mc. Has anyone else TTC straight after ERPC and if so did you wait the full two weeks after the surgery as is recommended?

Thanks

Hi sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Do you mean two cycles or two weeks? I think it's unlikely that you'd be able to conceive within the first two weeks after surgery, as your bhcg will still be raised and your body will still think you're pregnant. I had a MMC at 8 weeks and it took 4 weeks until I got a negative pregnancy test and then another 5 weeks for my period to arrive.

It didn't stop us trying - though we did wait for longer than two weeks as I was still bleeding at that time.

Hi mrs cupcake

I was advised no intercourse until bleeding had stopped just from an infection point of view and though docs say to wait until after your first period this is really only to make dating the new pregnancy easier. It really is up to u. I'm due for further testing as I've just had mc number 3 I'm devastated as I wanted like u to ttc ASAP but I can't as I have to wait for the tests. But it is Apparantly true that you are very futile following a mc so good luck ...

But as jolly said you really need to get some tests and keep peeing on them until you get a negative preg test before u start ttc again.you will need the negative before u get your first period anyhow ....The erpc removes the actuals so to speak but the Hcg hormones in you system take a little longer ( after my first mc it took 7 weeks!) I had my erpc Wednesday from my third mmc and I'm hoping the Hcg buggers off a bit quicker this time !

Hi thanks jolly and mumtum, sorry to hear about your mmc's.

When I had mmc and erpc last year I was told not to worry about waiting for a period to start trying, and by the time the mmc was found my hcg levels were on the floor anyway. I hadn't really considered about waiting for them to go down this time (I am still testing positive), and will bear that in mind.

With my last erpc I barely bled after, I was bleeding more before (and that was just spotting) than after. So I'm kind of expecting a similar experience this time, although I guess it could be completely different.

I suppose I just don't want to miss an 'oppurtunity' and was thinking that 2 weeks from the erpc would be safe to start ttc?

mumtum I have loads of tests (bought a bulk load off ebay this time) so will just keep testing until they come up negative and take it from there.

Thanks for your help and good luck Thanks

x
