OPK as HPT?

So I've read that the molecules in LH and HCG are almost identical and that OPK's can detect both.

I've pee'd on said sticks at 8, 9 and now 10 days past suspected ov using second morning wee and the line has got progressively darker. In fact, today I would say positive.

I know it's completely unreliable but has anyone tested this? If so, what did you find?

This might be useful: www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html

I do remember someone here doing the that and it turning out to be positive.

As far as I know the test line has to be darker than the control line to be positive.

Thanks Pip. Useful link. Line this morning was defo darker than control line but not full thickness iykwim.

Anybody else tried this?

Yep. Accidentally peed on an ovulation stick instead of a HPT and it was positive.

Then realised my error and used a HPT which was also positive.

An OPK wouldn't turn positive 10 days after ov for any other reason, surely? Unless your cycle is all over the placve and you haven't ovd yet.

Pipbin · 22/05/2012 20:28

That said I had one which was nearly positive just after AF.
But the only way to know for sure is to POAS, an hpt stick at that.

iwantbabies · 22/05/2012 20:48

The problem is my cycle is all over the place as I have PCOS.

Here's the link to pics of my ov sticks...what do you think? 8, 9 and 10 days past suspected ov (if it works)

I may be wrong but I think if you have PCOS they don't recommend using OPKs as they give lots of false positive results due to the the higher levels of LH produced due to the PCOS.

I think the only way you're going to know for sure is to do a HPT

Best of luck x

Do not waste any more of your hard earnt cash on OPKs.

OPKs are not worth using at all if PCOS is present as these kits measure LH levels. As many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone to start with the kit measures that. Also it is not correct to assume there is only one LH surge throughout the month, these happen multiple times.

iwantbabies · 23/05/2012 12:09

Well ladies, I would have to disagree. As I've said above the opk was positive for the first time 12 days ago and this morning I got my BFP!!! 11 DPO and the line appeared immediately and it's very strong. I'm a nervous wreck now. Thought I'd update for others reading this.
