hi there,

Hoping someone can help me with my dates as none of them are adding up and it?s causing arguments in my relationship, This is my first pregnancy.

-My Lmp: approx 20/21 jan (going on what the ultrasound said)
-Had intercourse on 14th feb
-Pregnancy test on the 15th feb, due to medication, was negative
-Pregnancy test done one the 25th feb and was positive
-Blood test done on 29th feb and came back on 2nd march to be 2 weeks post conception, which would bring it to around 14th feb
-My due date is the 27th October

How can my ovulation time be over 3 weeks after my period when my periods are relatively normal. Going on research ovulation time is usually 14 days after the first day of the period or can you ovulate any time of the month despite having a normal period? are blood pregnancy tests accurate as I had one to see when I approximately concieved?

What?s causing the arguments is that my other half was away as he is in the forces from the 24th jan- 11th feb, when it was 'apparently' my ovulation time (14 days after lmp), yet the blood test shows conception was around the 14th feb

i really need to know the answer as its putting alot of pressure on my relationship and tearing it apart

hope this all makes sense!

thank you for your time

People ovulate at different times in their cycle (and often have different cycle lengths too) a 28 day cycle with ovulation mid cycle is just the average. Of course it is possible to ovulate late. But you must no that as there is no chance of it being anything other than that is there?

Forgot to say I ovulated 3 and a half weeks after lmp but my cycles are all over the shop.

No theres no chance, we've had an argument over it cuz he knows when I have my period and he reads the baby books etc which is where he found the whole 14 day thing... I just want to prove to him :( if I had fooled around it would of come up on the 15th feb pregnancy test if I had ovulated on the '14th' day surely??

I always ovulate late in my cycle. Never before about day 16, often around day 18.

BTW a scan can't tell you when your last LMP was. Your last LMP is the first day of your last period. Scan dates and actual conception dates very rarely seem to match. For example, my youngest is an IVF baby. We knew exactly when he was conceived because it took a full medical team and a minor op to make it happen. The hospital insisted in using their scan date which put conception a week earlier - it made my blood boil it was so stupid.

show him this link and tell him to get a grip.

The sonographer told me it was from lmp and they also told the same to my sister in law who is on her 2nd baby and a week ahead of me... I'm around 17 weeks now so if I counted it back it takes me to my lmp...

Lmp means the 1st day of your last period.

That is GENERALLY 2 weeks prior to conception. So what the sonographer meant was that the no of weeks given to you was the date of conception plus w weeks as pregnancy is usually measured as 40 weeks from lmp (38 from conception).

Basically they are saying your due date should be 38 weeks from the 14th if that was the date of conception.

only4tonight · 21/05/2012 17:59

Is your due date from scan or from period dates?

mum2be22 · 21/05/2012 19:25

My due date that they gave me from the scan is from my lmp not my conception date... I'm pretty sure I concieved in the 3rd week of my cycle but not 100% sure anyway they've counted 40 weeks from my lmp and gave me the 27th October as my due date

OK - so your due date is based on your period. Thanks for clearing that up.
Please show your OH the link I posted earlier that explains that 14 day ovulation is a myth. He should be trusting you, it shouldn't be up to you to prove anything - especially when his suspicions are based on a load of crap a myth.
