Just had first appointment at Fertility Clinic - bewildered!

Hi well I am very new to Mumsnet and a forum virgin so apologies for any rookie errors! Basically I am looking for a bit of advice and support.

I had my first appointment at the fertility clinic two weeks ago. We have been TTC for two years since came off the pill. I also had an early MC four years ago whilst on the pill.

I thought I was ovulating normally as my periods came straight back and are totally normal. This year though we went to the Dr and he sent me off for Day 21 progesterone test and hubbie off for semen test. His results were spectacular - 97million, mine not so good, progesterone level was 10.4 instead of 25.

So I am being sent off for more blood tests for FSH, LH Oestradiol and Prolactin - does anyone know what this means?

Also due a hysterosalpingogram and am terrified. Has anyone had this procedure?

If all clear looks like I might get prescribed Clomid.

Any advice or support would be so appreciated. Thanks and baby dust to you all!

Welcome!

Was the progesterone test taken at the right time? It is day 21 as standard but if you don't ovulate at day 14, this would not catch the peak. Do you have any idea when you ovulate? If not, using ovulation predictor kits or temping to get a better idea of your cycle might be helpful. If you are not ovulating, then Clomid is usually the first port of call.

A HSG is fine. Some people experience some pain but I didn't feel a thing. It was just like a smear - undignified but that was it.

There is a lot of support around these boards (but a word of warning, low tolerance for baby dust!). I've learned an awful lot from reading this board while we have been trying, and also felt very supported by some of the posters here.

Good luck.

Hi
Good luck with it all! the tests will just be so they know how your hormone levels etc are at this time and may well be repeated again. i felt like the hospital had more blood of mine than i did! :)
don't worry about the hsg - as eurochick said its uncomfortable but remember they have seen it all before and the ladies that did mine were nice and chatty (appropriately though!). i took the rest of the day off to rest, eat chocolate and watch dvds but to be honest didn't really need that :) just didn't feel like going back to work after.
not sure where you are in the country but i would just say that all the appointments for me were very far apart even for results of tests etc so it is a long process. however, to keep it positive i have one ds - conceived after we had been referred for ivf and while on clomid and i am now pg with dc2 which was a little shock as i thought it would take as long as last time and it took about 2years less!!! :)
good luck x

Sounds much like my first fertility clinic appointment.

I had an HSG, all was clear, lobbed on clomid and Bob's Your Uncle I am pregnant. Bingo!

(Ps.... the babydust might not go down so well! ;) )

Hey mrs, am not sure but thought would pop by and give a friendly hug and hope all goes well! x

MrsTolis · 17/05/2012 14:23

Thank you all especially the hug. Ot is so easy to get down and think that that BFP is never going to happen.
