Charting - post ovulation temperature drop

I'm ttc cycle 5, but just started charting - and starting to regret it since it's given me more to worry about!

I got a zig-zaggy ovulation rise, which peaked at DPO 4 (very relieved that I seem to have actually ovulated!), but since then it's dropped like a stone. I'm now on DPO 7 and just above coverline.

I've seen some references on these threads to post-ovulation temperature drops being a bad sign. When people say that, do they mean a drop at about this time?

I know I just need to wait a few more days and test. But I'm feeling really hormonal today (which I always get around ovulation time, and then again just a bit before AF - probably a reaction to an Estrogen drop, which is a bad sign as well, right?) and I'm feeling quite down that I seem to be out for another month.

No, they mean at the end - usually what happens is you get a drop just before ov, a sharp rise the day after, then it stays around the upper region of temps for a couple of weeks till your period arrives, and you'll get a drop in the few days before that.

Are you sure you've ovulated? Are you using Fertility friend online? If not that's quite a good one.
My first month of charting was all over the shop Smile you will get the hang of it.

Also a temp drop around day 7-10 is sometimes experienced when your egg implants - called an implantation dip - this could be a v good sign Smile

See what it does tomorrow. If it goes back up that's great.

Thanks, Flighty! That's a big relief that I'm not be out of the running yet. I'll see what happens over the next couple of days.

I'm using Fertility Friend, but yes - I suspect my temp taking isn't perfect yet! I've noticed that the time I wake up and take my temperature makes a big difference, so I'm trying to be as consistent as I can with that now.

I'm pretty sure I've ovulated, since I got a positive OPK, as well as EWCM. Here's my chart

A similar thing happened to me a few cycles ago. Here's my thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/1438417-Temperature-spike-at-the-end-of-my-cycle

I believe I didn't actually OV when I thought I did, my body seemed to gear up to OV but something went wrong (or maybe I did OV but "lost" the egg if that's possible) so my whole cycle had to start over again.

MissMedusa · 14/05/2012 13:13

It could, however, be an implantation dip as well. There does seem to be some evidence that it occurs.

strawberrybubblegum · 14/05/2012 20:30

Ah, that's interesting Medusa. If that's what's happening, then we need to restart SWI! Argh - we're struggling a bit with the pressure, and having a regular, limited time when we need to SWI (SFF the rest of the month to 're-normalise' things) is the only thing just about keeping things sane.

I tried to look at your chart - linked from your thread - but it's only showing April and May. Would it be possible for you to redo the link? I don't know how FF works, but when I made my link above, I got a dropdown (containing my one and only chart). Can you make a new link which points at your historic chart? Or is there some other way to see it which I've just missed?

Ok, now it should be displaying May and March (I didn't track in April anyway for various reasons).

Thanks, Medusa! Blimey, temping seems to involve quite a lot of detective work, to try to figure out what on earth is happening.

My temp went back up a bit this morning, although I woke up every half hour from 4am - probably feeling a bit anxious about it - so I'm not sure how accurate it is Confused

Anyway, I've decided to wait and see how it goes over the next few days (i.e. not restart SWI), and take this cycle as a first attempt at understanding things. I'm hoping it will be clearer in hindsight, with information from the full cycle.

Flighty, Medusa - thanks very much for your help. Yesterday felt like a kick in the teeth, thinking that it was all over before AF had even arrived : yet another unsuccessful cycle. Extra information isn't always a good thing Confused. I'm feeling much more philosophical better about it, having talked to you ladies. Thanks again Smile

If it's back up, that's a good sign. Could well be an implantation dip :)

Thanks Medusa! I'll keep my fingers and toes, and anything else I can find crossed Smile Smile
