No periods, not ovulating?

Apologies for stupid question! I've come off the pill and haven't had a period yet - this means I'm not ovulating yet, doesn't it? Is it possible to ovulate without a period? Presumably there's no point in using ovulation sticks? Can't believe how little I know about this stuff!

If you ovulate you will either:
a) have a period about 10-16 days later, OR
b) be pregnant (if you had sex at the right time)

No periods means no ovulation.

How long have you been off the pill? If it's been while then I would not bother with OPK's but maybe see the GP. If only a few weeks then you could be just about to ovulate or have a period.

PS I didn't know much til I first started TTC either and then I become obsessed (not recommended Blush)

I have periods but do not ovulate (I have PCOS), so it is possible to bleed but not release an egg.

If you have only been off the pill a few months, your body may still be feeling tricked into thinking you are on the pill. It does take a while for everything to settle back down. Sometimes your body can respond almost instantly, sometimes it can take 6 months to regulate.

If you have only just come off the pill then it may be a month or so before you get a real, true period.

Thank you very much indeed. That's very helpful! I'm not pregnant so think my body must just be settling down after coming off the pill (it's been a couple of months). So I think I'll leave it another month and visit the GP. Am 35, so am aware that time is pressing on...

Thank you!

The pill leaves your system very quickly after taking the last tablet so if you have not had any sort of menstrual bleed since stopping a visit to the GP is in order now. Blood tests can be done to see what your hormone levels are like; a day 2 test to check and compare your LH level against that of your FSH level could easily be done. Blood tests too can be done according to calendar days so you do not have to wait.

If LH and FSH are out of sync then ovulation will be affected. This may also account now for a lack of a menstrual cycle.

It is unfortunately not correct to assume that ovulation occurs around 2 weeks after the start of the last period. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

Me again. Thanks for all your help so far. Ok, so when I missed my first period a couple of months ago it happened to coincide with stomach pains and because I had an ectopic a few years ago, I went to the GP and he measured my hgp levels. They came back normal, hence me saying I wasn't pregnant in earlier post. The stomach pains went.

Fast forward a month, no period hence my earlier question. But I just did a cheap Internet test - 2 in fact - and they're positive. But I had some wine last night and the tests say alcohol can affect them. Anyone else have experience of this? Should I get a decent test tomorrow and test, not having drunk anything? I don't have any stomach pain so no immediate need to rush to GP? Thanks for helping.

I think congrats is in order. Alcohol should not affect it - it surely does not contain the hormone that the tests pick up :)

I would get a more expensive test today and see what that says.

But congrats, sounds like you are pg to me :)

Ok... I've done a clear blue and that's positive. I've managed to get a gp appointment this a.m - am worried about ectopic issue. will report back. Thanks for quick response and hand-holding....
