Hmm, don't actually know!

All I know is that when I was ttc and went to the doc as it wasn't going to plan, she did blood tests to see if I was ovulating (and I was having periods). So, that makes me think you can have a period without releasing an egg.

Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgable will come and explain it to us!

Diddly you don't have to ovulate to have a bleed. Every month the lining of your womb thickens regardless of whether an egg is released and therefore if no pregnancy takes place this will shed as normal.

I have PCOS and don't ovulate at all (only twice in the last year) but still have a bleed.

I see! I have pco and bleed as often as you ovulate MooleyWooleyShamaLamaDingDong so just assumed that you have to ovulate to bleed! Aren't our bodies complicated!

Unbelievably complicated. And frustrating.

mrsbugsywugsy · 08/05/2012 20:51

surely you don't ovulate on the pill, but you still have a monthly bleed?

diddlybop · 08/05/2012 20:55

Its a withdrawal bleed when you're on the pill but yes. I guess thats probably the same! Hadn't thought of that!
