Delaying IVF - am I crazy?

Ladies I need your opinions on my current dilemma:

Been TTC for nearly 3 years, been through cyst removal, clomid, hsg and now about to start IVF. My beloved and I were planning a holiday somewhere exotic in July but if I start IVF this month the time we were gonna go away is the time we would be finding out whether the IVF had worked or not. Great if it hasn't worked as would have a holiday to get over it, not so good if it had as I think i would be a bit nervous about going away. So I am considering delaying starting IVF for a few months to give us time to have one 'last' holiday together. We can't go away any earlier than July due to work commitments.

Thoughts please! Do you think I am being silly delaying it for the sake of a holiday? Or should I just start cos I might not be successful with IVF and would then have something to look forward to?

Ho hum...

It might well do you good to have a break after all that, and a nice holiday, and start fresh when you get back? I dont think a couple of months will make any odds.

Unless you would like you say prefer to have something to look forward to if it didnt work.

Good luck sounds like youve been through the mill.

Time is on your side - delay. It's good to be relaxed when you start IVF so starting it after the holiday would be a good idea.

We're doing something very similar. We've had to go private for our IVF and it's going to be much more complex and risky than we first thought. We've been stuck on the TTC bus for such a long time we thought we'd have a complete break before making that massive final step.

Go on holiday, have a well deserved break. Good luck with it all.

Op I would delay. If you go somewhere exotic chances are you will need travel vaccines and possibly antimalarials. A lot of which you should not get pregnant after having, if you were pregnant you should not travel to any malarial area both tablets and disease are a problem in pregnancy. Please check with GP re vaccines travel agents often say you need nothing for places like Egypt, turkey, cape Verdi when in fact you do. Have a lovely time relax and how good will that be for the body

All the clinic success rates jump over summer. Just sayin!

I would delay, a holiday will chill you out and from your post I think if you did it before your holiday you might have the mindset of 'at least we have that to look forward to if it doesn't work' rather than a more positive attitude which you might have after a holiday

minipie · 04/05/2012 11:25

I would delay but as bugsy says bear in mind that some travel vaccinations/anti malarials could mean you have to delay IVF for several months after getting back - so choose your destination and malarial pills carefully.

(Malarone btw is one of the better anti malarial options)

enjoy a holiday with DH and delay the IVF. You're young and going into it relaxed can surely only help?

good luck!

I would say delay too, we did.

We had the option to start IVF in January but I wanted a couple more months to try naturally and we were also going to Vegas for a good friend's wedding at the end of Feb and round California afterwards so we delayed.

I think that starting in March after a good break (my cycle started on the plane on the way home - thanks AF!) has helped us. We started from a calm point. Don't know yet whether we are successful but I am glad that we delayed, it was right for us.

Good luck with everything and plan a fab holiday!

I agree to delay - we went on holiday during the 2ww after IVF and we realised that afterwards we didn't appreciate it because of stress (even though I did find out half way through it had worked!). But you are in a very strange place after IVF - even when you do find out it has worked.

Before we started however, all was exciting and new - going away then would be great!!
