Hi all, sorry it's a bit long, but driving myself up the wall and can't sleep.

Did a pregnancy test on a hunch yesterday and it was positive! Pretty surprised but excited, already have a 16 month old and have been broody for ages! decided to get a Clear Blue test just to confirm as I usually get 3 for 99p tests, and also wondered if my dates were right. Now, my calculations say 8 weeks ( from the first day of last period), but the test said 3 weeks ( not 3+ as it should have done), I know the test works from conception not first day of last period, but that's still 5 weeks. The paranoid gremlin in my brain says that means my hormone levels might be low, could it be that I have/ will miscarry?

Had a look through the forums, and it wasn't comforting. Looks like a few people in my situation have miscarried. I'd just like to hear from someone who had the same result and was ok. I realise the test might have just been wrong ( I did do it in the afternoon after drinking 3 cups of tea), and will be going to the docs to ask for extra tests, but those things take time, I'd love some reassurance and know that not all is lost...

You can get blood tests 48 hours apart to see if your HCG is rising and they gave me them straight away but that was due to spotting. You could try asking then you'll have a definite result within a few days. Alternatively do another test with FMU?

Good luck Smile

Thanks :) Doc doesn't think it's anything to worry about but would still like to have a definite answer

Did the test say 2-3 weeks then?

ScarlettAlexandra · 02/05/2012 12:04

they are not very accurate. i got pregnant after dh had been away for months i knew when this was it was the week he came back as it only happened the once.

the clear blue thing said i was more pregnant than i was. needless to say i didn't show dh asit would have looked like it could have been someone else's.

there id no mistaking she us his, so please don't read to much into this.

Clearblue conception indicators are the work of the devil. I hate them with a fiery passion I reserve for David Cameron on other days.

Too many women have had sleepless nights because of the bastard things. You are pregnant. You don't need to give CB ££. A cheapo 3 for 99p test gives you your answer. You are pregnant. I've seen them cause more concern than reassurance.

If you have a + test and no pain or bleeding, please don't give undue attention to the CB digi tests. You'll make yourself sick with worry. Get booked in and let yourself enjoy this bit.

The cb conception indicator thingy does need to be used with fmu to be accurate. Then it's supposedly 92% accurate. Try not to worry :)

Hcg level varies from woman to woman in pregnancy, so one woman at 4 weeks will not have exactly the same level as another woman at 4 weeks.

CB bastards don't publish the hcg ranges that they use to set the tests to show 1-2 weeks as opposed to 2-3 weeks etc. It is entirely possible (and more than likely) that your hcg level is within the medically recognised range for your dates, but that those are different from CB's setting of their rotten sticks. That's before you take into account the fact that it was the afternoon and you'd had three cups of tea.

Don't panic. Do another one tomorrow morning and see what it says.

Just spoke to a midwife who said the same, not to worry, it's probably not accurate. So will try to chillax and enjoy not being sick as a dog! Thanks everyone for taking time to reply and your reassurance, it's too easy to get yourself into a real state over stupid things in the early days!
