Oh pebs it sounds as if perhaps she reacted as if you had slighted her professional reputation - kinda 'well, why would you go to him, I'm just as 'good'?'

In that sense, I wouldn't worry too much about her dismissing him if you feel you would benefit from at least an initial consultation - your money, your perogative and frankly if she can't cope with the fact you're seeking a second opinion (which is what it is, in essence) then that's her issue and not yours.

I'm not entirely confident that your problem is something that can be diagnosed with an HSG (infact, it's more than likey the clotting issue that couldn't be managed properly this time because of the spotting, imho) - there isn't a fear, is there, that the actual structure of your uterus is causing the issue, or that your tubes are blocked (can't be, else the eggs wouldn't get fertilised/get to where they're supposed to be). Seems a bit of a dead end investigation to me, but, hey, I'm not the expert and I suppose it couldn't hurt...

So in conclusion, I'm dismissive of her being dismissive! And, er, yeah, go see Raj if for nothing else than for a consultant that will feel 'on side'. Meanwhile we're here to offer encouragement when things seem bleak. Hang in there

THoughts to our scanees today - will be checking for good news!

kirrinIsland · 01/05/2012 11:29

peb that sounds very frustrating :( I agree that going to see your guy anyway can't hurt - and then take it from there.

My scan is not til 2pm but then I have to go straight to work (with no Internet) so basically if you don't hear from me til after 11pm, thats good :) any sooner and I've come home with bad news......

pebspop · 01/05/2012 12:02

thanks manda

She did say she had gone as far as she could with me as there are no more tests she can offer so i needed to be reffered to a RMC such as Liverpool where they do the HSG and offer research type treatment. To be honest, I don't feel like I have given the aspirn and Heparin treatment a good shot yet.

I am not expecting Raj Rai to say anything other than take asprin and heparin so maybe my consultant thinks she could do that anyway so whats the point? I just want to see if he can diagnose something on the tests they do down there that i can;t get anywhere else. He sometimes tells people to take more asprin than i have been advised to take if he finds something.

I will see what he thinks about the polyp.

Robert Winston was on this morning last week and he said the structure of the uterus is one of the first things that should be checked. Mine was ok apart from the tiny polyp.

My consultant was dismissive of Robert Winston as well...

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 12:05

sorry you haven't had better news pebs. I agree to go and see Raj, it doesn't sound as though your first consultant has given you much to be positive about and it's nice to get another opinion.

Good luck to those with a scan today! xx

GrandPoohBah · 01/05/2012 13:21

Ahhhh! (my phone wanted to change that to Ahoy! which made me giggle a bit!)

I have a bean with a heartbeat, AND arms, AND legs, AND it was moving! Actually wriggling a bit! I've never got this far before. Eek! But also yay :)

leedy · 01/05/2012 13:36

YAY GPB!

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 14:15

high five GPB Grin. Congrats on heartbeat, arms, legs and movement!!! Grin

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 14:24

whoop whoop GPB! Ahoy there little matey bean!!

pebs i second what manda said (as usual Blush) but seriously, if she was dismissive of Robert Winston then she clearly knows fuck all Hmm Grin

NHS Consultants and Docs hate private consultants as they are making shit loads more money than them to basically say the same thing, or so they think. I work in medical regulation and i know a little about the politicos of it all. So as has been said before I would completely 'dismiss' her ego and go and see Mr Raj. He may well tell you the same thing but then again he may offer you so much more reassurance as well as this uterus test you have mentioned.

I once absentmindedly mentioned alternative therapies to a Dr friend of DH's and she gave me this chapter and verse about how if we all went for alternatives then her years of hard work and study are all down the drain Hmm

TBH as soon as you said she dismissed RW then I could tell it was an ego thing. Grin

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 14:25

for politicos read politics

although i do rather like that little typo - makes it sound all european! Wink

pebspop · 01/05/2012 16:27

thanks martha!

she made a dig about how you can never get hold of robert winston as he is always at the bbc rather than his surgery.

i am sure the private guys won't say any different but i just want to see if they can actually diagnose something rather than guess at asprin and heparin doses.

well done grand!! looks like kirrin is ok as well - she must be at work!

farfallarocks · 01/05/2012 16:38

hmmm I have to say pebs most consultants are very complimentary of eachother even when they have theories that they disagree with, it is a professional courtesy so I would be suspicious of a consultant that makes such comments.

You know my thoughts of Rai, I think he is a legend and I really hope you get the answers you so deserve. His treatment may indeed be similar but I know that he would have insisted you start heparin at BFP regardless of spotting (I had it too if you remember) Who knows if that would have made a difference but as you say, you have not had a chance to explore that particular avenue yet. He is also an excellent surgeon and if you are having surgery you should be very careful who you let near you with a scalpel! Sorry, I realise I sound very biased but I am :) Good luck with it all, you have had quite a journey and you deserve your lovely snuffly take home baby.

StateofConfusion · 01/05/2012 17:17

bonzo77 · 01/05/2012 17:27

farfallarocks · 01/05/2012 18:01

Yay gpb

Any news from kirrin?

Tiago · 01/05/2012 18:29

Brilliant news GPB

sunshinesue · 01/05/2012 18:56

I think kirrin said she would be going to work after the scan and without internet until late this eve if all was good, so fingers crossed no news is good news!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/05/2012 19:10

Evening all Smile

Great news GPB Grin

I have had a pleasant day, long but ok, no sickness so I have filled up in fruit for breakfast, jacket potato with beans and cheese and salad for lunch and erm jacket sweet potato with roasted veg couscous for dinner.
Urine samples still coming back showing infection though so more antibiotics, they decided to inform me via text message Hmm what next? A fb wall post from my GP informing me I have thrush?!

Getting nervous about my 12 week scan next week, at least DP will be there for hand holding, does anyone know if I need a full bladder?

MandaHugNKiss · 01/05/2012 19:11

Ahoy! and, indeed, avast! GPB! Lovely news, clearly a little pirate you have in there Wink

And, yes, hopefully no news is good news from kirren after what she said earlier.

Right, well, I have finally* swung into action. Pulled out the two massive bags of DS2's stuff that I intend this baby to make good use off (it's all literally as new considering how little time they spend in the early days stuff... especially if you give birth to a massive chunk of a child, almost toddler sized!) and have done The White Wash. Also ordered a sofa bed today. Which sounds like a weird thing, I know. But as mentioned, we co-sleep with DS2 (his cot is beside out bed but without the side on it, so like a little extension of the bed - however, he doesn't spend much^ of the night in it, usually, and often clambers over me to lay in the crook of Daddy's arm, or indeed, clambers over me to latch on (a lot of late, he's non-specific poorly again these last few days). I intend to co-sleep with this baby too... but don't think it will be safe with DS2 and his nocturnal shennanigans. DF made the suggestion that if we got a sofa bed, he could sleep in the living room with DS2. I ignored the idea as that would Be Thinking About The Baby Arriving... until yesterday. When I thought - actually, it's not a bad idea, but the other way around. We shouldn't disrupt DS2 - he should still go off to his bed. And it's gonna be me who is 'up' all hours with a constantly breastfeeding infant from preious experience, so it should be Baby and I on the sofa bed. FOr the interim, until we buy a house (that is maddeningly stalled at the moment, it seems. It's like a rubbish game of chess with all this offer, rejection, counter-offer business) and get moved, it'll work. I think.

I keep looking at my bump (which is MAHOOSIVE) and realising I have to get it out soon. Fuck!

MandaHugNKiss · 01/05/2012 19:19

Wonderfully healthy diet for the day tits - really, no cake? Grin I polished off the last of the 'Jubilee Cake' I bought from Marks the other day. It wasn't great, but, y'know, it was cake. So it was Good. At a couple of days shy of 38 weeks I've put on 11kg so I reckon there is DEFINITELY room for a little indulgence to get me through the final stretch...

I think you're supposed to have a full bladder for the 12 weeks scan - I rememebr my letter told me to drink 500ml half an hour before attending. And, if you attend full but it's not necessary you can empty out but would cause a delay/have to rebook the other way around... so, on balance, full bladder it is!

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 19:30

hi ladiesSmile

congrats GPB on your scanSmile and good news from KIRRIN i hopeSmile

sorry about the absence ladies!

the new job is pooer than poo and has no internet i can use for any length of timeHmm also we have noticed some worrying episodes with DD! she appears to be having a number of absence seizures every day which we had thought were her ignoring usBlush the GP thinks it is absence epilepsy and has referred her for investigations [worriedsickemoticon] its very odd and worrying so i hope the referral is quick! this means the TTC has been re-shelved in favour of some excellent wait-and-see-sexWink

i have yet to catch up on the past weeks news so have read todays...anychance of a recap?

hope everyone is doing wellSmile

pebspop · 01/05/2012 20:59

Hope everything is ok with your dd marbles.

I am thinking I wil just try agai after I see raj rai. I will ask for the refferal to Liverpool but if I get pg before the appointment comes through I will just try the aspirin etc and not bother with the investigations. If I don't get pg I will have the investigations. Sounds like a good plan to me!

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 22:05

thanks pebsSmile

your plan sounds like a good oneSmile i had all my investigations at Liverpool Womens and they are all very nice and efficient etc ask for Mr Farquharrson for your investigations etc he is very good Smile

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 22:05

pebs now that is positive thinking, i like it Smile you are making future plans and setting it all down on-MN in your mind. that deserves a high fiiiive!

manda i do love your style, you are practically dilating your bliddy cervix and only NOW do you think, oh where are me and LO going to sleep? what is he/she gonna wear?

Having said that i have only had the one and i truly know that it doesnt matter how organised you are beforehand, the LO's find their own way of fitting into your household routine, anyway DS was born in a heatwave and only wore nappies and a muslin cloth for the first two weeks of his life! Hmm Grin. I think the sofabed idea is a good one, also when you are doing the 3am breastfeeding you can watch some overnight tv trash, with the kitchen handy for the obligatory pint of water and-cake

bizarre as it may sound i really do miss those early newborn days, even though me and DH were grappling in the dark experience wise we enjoyed the whole 'learning curve' and just the whole 'us being responsible for DS'. I even coped pretty well with the culture shock of no sleep as i figured that this was the hardest most tiring work i have ever done, but by far the most rewarding.

marbles i am so sorry your new job is pooiness Angry however may i tentatively ask a bit more about your DDs absence seizures? See DS has always had this thing where he just gazes into space for about a minute and then he is '1, 2, 3 back in the room' we think it is just him being 'glaky' as i also tend to just wander my mind off every now and again. How was it discovered? Why did you mention it to your GP? Sorry for being nosey but i am genuinely curious.

MarthasHarbour · 01/05/2012 22:08

pebs and marbles i am in South Manchester and my nearest Hosp is Wythenshawe. If it comes to it i am wondering if i would be eligible to travel to Liverpool Womens, its not that far away. I guess with NHS you go where you are sent Hmm so they are unlikely to send me out of Manchester..

NoMoreMarbles · 01/05/2012 22:23

hi marthaSmile

re: DDs absences...i had noticed about 6 weeks ago that she was totally unresponsive a few times a day about 5-10 secs a time but noone else had noticed so i thought she was being an ignoramous... anywho about 2 weeks ago DHs nan noticed and commented on it ("its not normal, that") so i started to keep a closer eye on her. my sister then saw it happen and i pointed it out about twice an hour, every hour. Basically what happens is...she will be chatting away or playing or whatever, she will suddenly stop what she is doing, her eyes direct upwards and she just...isnt there. she also smacks her lips like she has just eaten and blinks her eyes very fast for 10-15 seconds (they seem to be getting more frequent and last a little longer). the reason i decided to go the GP was she had an absent episode that lasted a full 15 seconds and i couldnt rouse her at all. To be honest i panicked a bit but the GP was very reassuring and wants us to pop in to discuss everything on thursday and has referred her to a Neuro Paediatrician. from what i read via Dr Google it appears to be a relatively treatable form of epilepsy and kids can grow out of it. once she comes back she is entirely normal and has no idea anything untoward has happened. The thing that worries me is that it can be caused by sinister things like brain tumours etc... she will need EEG tests and MRI scans, blood tests and medication etc...

i read a write up about this type of seizure and aswell as being quite freaked out about the prospect i felt relieved that i wasnt being an overprotective mum...she fits every symptom it lists...here
