Hello everyone.

I had another thread going but not got many answears.
Just wondering if anyone can help me out??

I started on Metformin in October for PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarys), before hand my periods were all over the place anywhere from 45-72 days.

I was told the Metformin would help regualte my periods and help with my other symptoms also.

Anyhow since October my periods did start to regulate :) I had a 45 day cycle which is norm for me, then a 35 day cycle and the last one was 28 days.

I am soo chuffed that im now getting more normal, i havent had a 35 day cycle...never mind a 28 day cycle in years.

I am confused as each month they have became more normal and getting shorter... yet this period hasnt turned up and im now on day 40!!!

Im not on the pill as iv been wanting to regulate my periods...and pills in the past have either stopped my bleeding altogether or i bleed all the time :( We do usually use condoms or withdrawl method .......I KNOW ITS NOT A METHOD OF CONTRACEPTION....but as we do want another child, we would be happy if i was pregnant.

Can anyone help??? CAn i class this as a late period do you think?? I have done 2 preg tests both Negative.

In my case, my body's response to metformin has lessened over time. From a starting point of 100 day cycles metformin whistled me straight down to 30ish day ones. After perhaps 3 cycles, though, everything started to lengthen out again, by about 8 days at a time. Could this be happening to you, if you're not pregnant?

shellmc · 24/04/2012 18:57

Thanks for your reply Northey :)
Okay i see i was hoping to hear from someone who is also on met, to see how their periods changed.. so it could still be regulating out i suppose??

Do you know if your ovulating? and on your own??

I thought if my period was going to follow last months i would have got it on the 11th April (that would have been 28 days again) i then thought well il wait till 18th (which would be 35 days) like the month before.

I did notice that on the 12th i had cramps which made me think it was period coming, then noticed alot of slimey, stretchy clear discharge....sorry for TMI!!

I was wondering if i have ovulated then?? that would be day 29. Im all confused and waffling on now arnt i? xxxx

I'd say that the cramps on the 12th was ovulation and you'll come on approx 26th-28th.

Mine dropped down from 100 days ish to 35 when I took met.

shellmc · 24/04/2012 19:03

Thanks SquishyCinnamonSwirls :)
I hope i have ovulated on my own as my LH FSH results back in Sept were showing i wasnt ovulating.

I must say i havent noticed the slimey EWCM as much as i did this time....really hope soo. Im gonna hold on untill thurs, fri and if i still dont get my period..i will test again. xx

No signs of ovulation. And not pregnant either. So I'm about to add Clomid into the mix and see of that helps.

shellmc · 24/04/2012 19:05

Okay Northey thankyou...have you been on metformin long hun???

Good luck with the Clomid :) xxx

I have just fallen pregnant aftr 2+ years of trying after DD1. I have PCOS which got worse after DD1 born ( she is 4 years now).

I started to take metformin in oct, I also took, agnus castus and wild yam, and by chance brought two jars of 15 + manuka honey, which i had before fell preggers.

I also won some sessions with a personal trainer, and lost 9 pounds in two weeks, that weekend it seems........everything fell into place.

Trytofindananswer · 10/01/2021 01:24

Hey! I know it's been a while since this thread got active. But this situation is very much relevant to me so was wondering what helped you all eventually.
Thanks much

MamuMamu · 13/01/2021 00:09

Hi,

I started taking metformin in November 2018 at 500mg a day in December I upped to 1000mg per day and in January the maximum dose of 2000mg per day , in the March I found out I was pregnant. My Daughter was born in December 2019.
So I would say the maximum dose helped me, I kinda got through the side effects, although I have started taking them again no and can’t cope with nausea.

Trytofindananswer · 13/01/2021 09:35

Hey, thanks for your response. Glad to hear that the treatment worked out for you ☺️

I tried increasing the dosage but had to cut down again due to nausea/vomiting/lack of appetite. Any tips on how to get over those symptoms please 🥺

Thanks in advance.

MamuMamu · 14/01/2021 01:06

I completely understand, my body got use to the side effects eventually by drinking lots of water and Mints for the nausea.
This time it’s not working out so well but I believe it’s due to the lockdown, so try and stay as active as possible.

GoodLuck 😊

Hi all, sorry for the long post.
Ive got PCOS and been ttc for about 2yrs. Dr started me on Metformin Nov 2020 and upped to 2000mg at Christmas and im trying to track my period to add clomid as well but seems to be about 2 weeks later than my app predicts (so 6 weeks between each period) for Nov, Dec, Jan and looking like Feb as well. I used to be 30 days (except Oct was a week early, ugh) but blood tests show that l havent been ovulating for a lot of them. I have lost 15kg Sept to Dec-yay.
Should l keep tracking? How should l try to predict a fertile window if l dont know how long each cycle is going to be?

Girl I just started metformin about a month ago almost I am normally kinda regular but maybe will be a week late than before. I have not had a period technically I’m two 1/2 weeks late and nothing! My boobs hurt tho and are swollen and I did have some cramps. Like what the heck, I took a test it says negative but like I know metformin messes with your hormones but I do not want to be pregnant. My docs gave it to me for weight loss but never told me women were using it to get pregnant I’m freaking out!!
