Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Come and tell me what you are trying/eating/doing to improve egg quality and TTC - it's a new month for me and time to try some new things. I suppose we still have to have at least some sex as well.

I've been TTC DC2 for about 15 months now and had 2 mcs during that time. I started a thread a few months ago about supplements, which taught me a few things (thanks) and thought I'd ask again about anything you are doing to help TTC or specifically to improve egg quality. I am taking the following supplements:

Multivits for pregnancy (thinking positive)
Omega 3 fish oils
Co-enzyme Q10
Vitamin B6
Royal Jelly
Extra vit C with zinc
Vit D and K with calcium

The last two are soluble ones, which make a delicious (ahem), fizzy orange drink.

I've also really improved my diet and given up alcohol and caffeine.

DH is taking zinc and cut right down on booze.

Sometimes we even remember to have sex and I sometimes use Conceive Plus.

I'm wondering about a Restricted Bonking Month this cycle rather than our usual as-much-as-possible-around-ovulation.

So come and tell me what you are doing to give us all some ideas. TTC does get a bit tiresome after a while and I'd really like to move on to stage 2: pregnancy.

Hi generic :)

From looking at the back of packs, pregnancy vits actually have less stuff in them than conception vits, so it might be worth swapping over once you run out? The conception ones can also be taken in pregnancy iyswim so they won't be wasted.

I also got DH on conception man-vits, got him to cut down on alcohol and caffeine - I didn't realise how much caffeine he was consuming but it was ridiculous (equivalent to something like 8 cups of coffee a day), and our BFP came about 3 months after he cut right back, so I'd like to think that might have contributed.

GenericDietCola · 13/04/2012 09:02

Wow Pop thanks - I didn't know that. Will swap to conception vits for me and make sure DH stays off the booze! He doesn't have much caffeine, but I think he needs to drink more water.

I take folic acid, flaxseed oil (lots of omegas in that) and a multivitamin.

DH takes fizzy orange and zinc.

We have both cut down the alcohol loads, I have cut caffeine out too.

Pineapple is supposed to help with implantation

I was taking contraception vits but also I found slimming world to be my saving grace. Losing a bit of weight has given me my BFP.

Also got DH off the caffiene and on vit C and zinc.

Also didn't use Opks just watched out for a change in cervical mucus and bingo it worked.

All the other months I wasn't taking vits, and I was putting on weight through stress.

eurochick · 13/04/2012 13:02

I am currently taking:

pregnacare conception
omega 3 (with evening primrose before ov, without after)
Vit D3
Vit B6
75mg aspirin

The D3 and aspirin are recommended by the dr I am seeing for high nk cells. He's also a big fan of omega 3.

GenericDietCola · 13/04/2012 13:19

Congratulations Fanjo on your BFP!

Euro I didn't know that re D3 and high NK cells. I wonder if I have this too as I've had three mcs in total (one before DD, so not reached the magic three in a row to qualify for tests). Must add vit D3 to my shopping list! Not sure whether I am brave enough for aspirin yet though.

i remember on another thread someone saying she saw Prof Regan in the recuurant MC clinic and she told her under no account to take aspirin until after you get a BFP - i think she said it can lower chances of implantation. Obviously this is 3rd hand info but just shows how confusing and conflicting all this is. I won't bore you all with my long list of vits, as nothing on it that hasn't already been mentioned.

winkle2 · 13/04/2012 22:27

This month Im taking santogen mother to be tablets. Hubbys on wellman conception.

Cutting right down on booze and no smoking - started this on Tuesday. I wasn't smoking a lot (maybe one or two a week) but OH was drinking a few times a week.

I'm drinking grapefruit juice as I hear it helps with EWCM.

Following SMEP plan, using OV sticks and legs in the air afterwards!!

GenericDietCola · 13/04/2012 22:35

Sparks NK cells are natural killer cells, part of the immune system, and can attack the embryo as if it is a foreign body like a bacterium or virus. Well, that's my understanding! Aspirin is to 'thin' the blood - some people have a tendency towards blood clots where tiny clots can form in the placenta and may be associated with miscarriage.

Blackcat I think I would avoid aspirin as it seems too risky to me - thanks for your comment.

Winkle I have heard of the SMEP plan, but what does it entail? Well done on the quitting smoking!
