Temping experts help please - temps not dropping below coverline post-AF

I have a very strange temp pattern happening. Basically AF arrived on Sunday but since then my temps have not dropped below my coverline (36.40). I have been temping for quite some time and always see a significant drop when AF arrives and temps remain consistently low until ov but this month things appear to have gone awry.
Has anyone experienced this ? I have had a quick look in TCOYF the FAM book but nothing jumps out to help explain why this may happen. At the highest point my temps were 36.7-36.9 but since AF they have been 36.46,36.59, 36.43, 36.59 and these are genuine temps (no getting up through the night, lie-ins or alcohol). Temp has definitely dropped just not as low as I would have expected.
I am under no illusions that this has just been some breakthough bleeding and am actually PG as AF was 'proper' full on AF with painful cramps then bleeing for 3 days which is totally normal AF for me. I am just worried that these higher than expected temps mean that something is amiss with hormone levels and would appreciate any insight from fellow tempers.

Hi, one clarification....are the temps you note since CD1 or since bleeding stopped?

Not sure about this - my first thought was 'breakthrough bleeding'. I know your AF was normal but is it worth doing a cheap test just in case.

Are you well? I think TCOYF says that you can pretty much discount the temps during AF because they are often erratic or higher then anyway... perhaps that is what purple is getting at?

Yes I was, but if they are continuing well into cycle mmm I'm not sure, haven't seen this before and they do seem a little high. If you have no expectations is there any harm in doing a pg test, just to rule it out?

Purple temps are since CD1 so maybe you are right that they will settle down after AF. Having said that AF pretty much fiinished last night and temp still high today. I did do a cheapie on Monday and BFN so am convinced am not PG.

I guess if temp doesn't go down I could do another test. I am just worried that something is wrong as am off on holiday in a few days - don't want any disasters abroad. Part of my concern is that on 5-6dpo I had brown watery blood which made me panic about ectopic (not such a good thing knowing too much !!) I am now concerned that although AF has arrived there is still 'something' in there causing high temps. I know I must sound like a nutter but I lost a baby at 20 weeks PG in December and it has taken a long time for ovulation to return. This is my second cycle since I lost the baby and last month my temp returned to normal after AF arrived. I am just terrified of something else going wrong.

You don't sound like a nutter at all. So sorry for your loss, must be very hard. Yes, it's true we tend to pay so much attention that sometime, perhaps, we make things more difficult! I'm not a doctor, but I don't think this is 'something bad', though I agree that 'something' is causing it, however they are tenths of degrees of temp we are talking about. I hope things turn to normal and you have a good holiday. Try not to worry.

Just something that might be worth considering ...... Do you think you need to change battery on thermometer?

Ok I get where you're coming from. However (and I've only been charting for about 6 weeks) I just checked my last chart and my AF temps, and even after AF are well up and down.

After ovulation they settle much better into a pattern but before, they were up to post ov levels several times in between the ones well below coverline. (mine's 36.91 - v. temping). I don't know if this helps at all, you've far more charting experience than me so if it is indeed unusual for you, then perhaps you might want to go and ask the gP.

have you any pain and is it possible you have any infection/maybe a cold or something, that could cause the temps to be up a bit?

Thanks for input Flightty. Temps are still high and am now on CD7 - mind you a few glasses of wine last may have caused this morning's temp .
Acupuncturist reckons it is just down to post-MC hormonal imbalance. It is just so frustrating. Am less worried as did PG test this morning and BFN so nothing untoward going on, just my messed up body. Off on holiday on Monday so hoping some sun, sea and the other will sort me out . Thanks for taking the time to post ladies, it really is much appreciated.

Re the batteries, I was suprised when mine went after only about 6 months charting. Then I read the thermometer instructions and read that you are supposed to turn the thing off after each use, whereas I was leaving it to turn itself off after 30 mins.

DH ordered 2 new batteries on ebay for £1.29 and hopefully these will last much longer now I have learnt my lesson!
