Coming off meds...horrendous PMS

I'm planning to conceive this year hopefully so I've just come off Yasmin contraceptive pill 2 weeks ago. I've had horrendous PMS since, which is partly why I chose to take the pill in the first place.

I also need to come off of Sertraline, an anti-depressent perscribed to me for anxiety. (This med could cause harm to a baby and I don't want to risk it).

Both these meds have worked brilliantly and I've felt balanced and normal for the last couple of years. I'm scared to go back to the mental torture that I used to experience. I've read about other women who get PMS this bad and I'd like to know how they cope? Does pregnacy ease these symptoms or make them worse?
I'm suprised to find there isn't much resource out there for this subject considering it ruins women's quality of life.

Any advice please???!

Hi, I am not sure about your meds but when I had the Mirena (coil with hormones in it) taken out I had a PMS type hormonal crash for a few days but recovered once my body got used to being un-medicated. Hopefully your PMS will improve once your body gets back to its normal state and this is just temporary. Have you talked to your GP about alternatives to Steraline that would be safer? All the best.

When i came off the pill 4 years ago i suffered with terrible anxiety...i think withdrawel symptoms thru coming off pill and hormones all over the place made me feel awful. I got put on sertraline which is great and sorted me out but my g.p also wouldn't keep me on it as ttc. I find kalms are quite good if your feeling abit anxious and they are also good for pmt xx

Hi msbliss hope it's ok to reply to this a bit late. I came off the pill late last year, and started to get dreadful pms, having never had it before. I don't get too depressed, but I do feel very bleak for a good week, and get horrible sickness, dizziness and feel generally awful.

I'm also really surprised there's not much out there for those of us suffering, would be useful to know we're not alone as it makes the TTC process a real rollercoaster.

Hope you're coping ok!

Hi. As far as I'm aware, setraline is actually one of the safest meds to take during pregnancy my friend who is a GP told me this! I really struggled with pms too. I found taking a magnesium supplement has helped me.and some people recommend B6. I also had a course of counselling which helped me manage my anxiety issues. I felt ok most of the time but was bottling up things and exploded with pms! I am much calmer now :)
Hope you feel better.
