When's the best time?

so i know it's purely academic as they take their own sweet time BUT once you've decided you're ready (in theory) if you could decide when is the best time to give birth when would that be?

there are so many considerations - work, commitments, holidays, school years.

for me
a) i have to avoid being sick as a dog/heavily pregnant/have a new born at christmas as it's about the only time of year we can make any money from our buisness,
b) we have a big long haul holiday planned for feb,
c) i've heard it's better for them not to be the youngest in their school year - but then we don't know where we might be living in the future so there may be different school years to consider.

so when would be best for you and why?

I personally wouldn't care when it was... you might find it is not as easy as you think to get pregnant and therefore your planning may not work out!

Flightty · 01/04/2012 12:48

What frightens me is unutterably bad morning sickness during the dark and cold of autumn, going into winter. I've had that twice now.

So if I do get pg again I want it to be in the spring.

No other considerations apart from me wanting to go back to work, and it may make it far harder if I don't now, but then waiting another few years to have a baby isn't a real option so it has to take priority, unless we don't do it at all.

smartiesrule · 01/04/2012 12:53

It's horrible to carry over the summer but if you can bear it then it'll be born in Sept. It won't be a new born in Dec, you can still have your holiday provided you're not in the first 3 months and it will be the oldest at school.

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 12:54

as i say friend, it's purely academic but it's a matter of curiousity - everyone has their own inclinations from 'now now now' to ' there will never be a "right" time' and many have practical considerations which ultimately will have to be worked around if/when a BFP appears

I totally get your drift OP

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 13:01

nice one flighty

I think Smarties' idea is pretty good. You would be pregnant from about Christmas time, for an October baby. (I think....need me calculator Smile)

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 01/04/2012 13:20

I absolutely cannot be heavily pregnant or have a newborn between May and September. This limits me a lot. So my ideal would be to get pregnant now this month. Ideally I am three weeks pregnant already.

Massively academic Grin, and after two years TTC beggars can't be choosers, sadly.

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 13:50

good luck ariel
love the plan for an autumn baby for me smarties and flighty but then i've missed the boat for this year on that particular one.
if i were someone who needs to have everything just so this inability to plan such an important thing in life would drive me nuts...
happily i'm haphazard at the best of times but it's still irksome not having any control and just living on hope.

FriendofDorothy · 01/04/2012 14:01

Why cannot you be pregnant between those dates Ariel? I am curious now!

Flightty · 01/04/2012 14:09

Ariel Grin I know what you mean though I stopped myself from actually saying, I ought to be 2 and a half weeks, right now, for my plan to work, because that might, yunno, jinx it? Grin

Prunella,

sometimes things we plan don't work out quite like we thought....like you could conceive in a certain month and find that you feel alright in the first bit, and then get SPD or something later, iyswim....it is hard to plan with precision I think.

how about if you ttc in September, and then you'll be well past the first trimester by Christmas, and can enjoy your hols next Feb. and he or she will be born around May. So not the youngest - loads of kids with May birthdays in my children's classes. Would that work maybe?

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 14:21

OK so in the interests of openness - i'm not looking to find my ideal conception time - i'm dealing with the fact that i just got a BFP on friday which means i'm due early December - absolutley out in terms of when would be 'best' but i wasn't prepared to stop ttc to fit in with what might be 'convenient' and now i have to reassess the things in life i had thought were important and now suddenly seem less so.
and as it was on my mind i thought i'd ask - out of interest Smile

In which case you are very very lucky Prunella and I hope you have a happy healthy pregnancy! I would give anything to get a BFP this month!

Flightty · 01/04/2012 14:23

Oh gosh Smile

Well first of all congratulations! what are you going to do about the business, and the holiday?

Flightty · 01/04/2012 14:24

Doro - good luck poppet.

When are you testing?

FriendofDorothy · 01/04/2012 14:27

I won't be testing unless I am really late.

Flightty · 01/04/2012 14:28

Good on you. I have no will power but also am completely terrified to test so just used my last one at 2 dpo. Because I knew it wouldn't be positive.

Irrational, moi?

FriendofDorothy · 01/04/2012 14:30

It's not that I have no will power, but because I can't stand the disappointment!

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 14:39

fx all around.

i know i'm lucky, i wish you all luck too.

business and holidays can wait, we've planned to cut back our business plans for xmas and DH will have to cover it all, which'll mean we'll be skint for the rest of the year and it's going to be difficult for DH to be around Sad for the birth/the first weeks.
the holiday will have to be postponed - but how long for i don't know - i need to do some more research into travelling with a LO.

Congrats Prunella!

Dor, business reasons

ScarlettInSpace · 01/04/2012 20:10

Based on my CD1 this month, if when I get a BFP in 2 weeks, my due date will be 25th December! Which pretty much is the worst due date all year lol so I must be guaranteed ironic BFP Grin

Prunella79 · 01/04/2012 20:30

i reckon Sod's first law of circumstance may play a big part in the timing of BFPs

GoGoBananas · 01/04/2012 20:33

I waited to ttc ds as I didn't want to have a baby the youngest in the year, already having one who went to school at 4 and a little bit and wishing I'd had longer with her at home. I tried from New Year's Eve. In fact I tried New Year's Eve and then dh had to go away. I was pregnant from that one night. My due date was 21st September and I was adamant all the way through that I just wanted to get to September 1st...

My waters broke on September 1st.

Quodlibet · 02/04/2012 15:43

I have planned and replanned this obsessively and TTC has been negotiated around some very difficult work commitments/DP working away from home for long periods etc. Loads of my/our business is loaded around May-Aug and I can't risk being wiped out by MS during that time (like all the other females in my family have been). So we stopped actively TTC this month so as not to risk the MS, only for OV to turn up a week early and catch us out contraception-wise. Currently in 2WW.

The best laid plans etc etc.

KatAndKit · 02/04/2012 18:02

The best time to give birth is approximately 38 weeks after conception.

Other than that you just can't plan it. Your January baby could be born a month early and come at Christmas. Your perfectly timed September baby could be born in July. You
You might plan to be over the first trimester by Christmas and then find the sickness doesn't go away for you. You may stop ttc for months and then find out when you are pregnant that you never get morning sickness.

There are no guarantees in this game. You can't plan it to fit in with other things.

ariel I have my fingers crossed that you are indeed 3 weeks pregnant!
