Chances of conceiving following a HSG

Hello everyone.

I had my HSG done on 26th March (so just under a week ago) and I have heard many conflicting stories of women getting pg the same month of having this, or a couple of months later.

I have PCOS and ovulate very rarely (3 times in the last year) and I am waiting on my follow up appointment so that I can hopefully get started with the clomid.

My question is, has anyone here found themselves pg following this procedure? Because I don't tend to ov all that often, I am thinking that it will not help me, but after almost 12 cycles of getting no-where, I can't help but be a little hopeful that it might give my ovaries a good kick

I have PCOS too but did not become pg following a HSG (its a tubal x-ray and a useful test to have done). Deformities inside the tube can only be seen on x-ray. It should not be painful providing the (teaspoonful of) dye is injected slowly and carefully. You should be given a couple of painkillers beforehand and ensure too you have some sanitary protection to wear afterwards (that dye does come out).

If you are given clomid (preferably by a gynae) ensure you are monitored whilst on it. No monitoring is not acceptable. Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder. It should also be given to PCOSers with a degree of caution as it can increase hormone levels markedly. It is also important that you see the same set of people on a regular basis as this helps continuity of care.

I was not suitable to take clomid (sky high LH levels would have only be further increased by clomid) so did not take it. I went onto have ovarian diathermy surgery which in my case kickstarted ovulation. I became pg as a result of that surgery. Diathermy surgery can be very helpful to some PCOSers re conceiving. It is not a cure though for PCOS; the cystic follicles associated with this condition do return eventually.
