Metformin Moments! Who's been there, done that?

Right, FINALLY got my prescription for Metformin - am really surprised I wasn't given this anyway, ttc or no ttc as bloods showed that I am severely insulin resistant.

Anyway, seems not to be too bad so far. Appetite has decreased noticeably, have already lost 2 kg (I can actually see the loose skin on my tummy rolls..lovely!).

Only problem is the infamous incessant pooing!

Will I have to just live on imodium? It seems to have helped today, I haven't had the usual cramps yet. Also I noticed (sorry if TMI, I know!) that a lot of the pill seems to come out in the diarrhoea... anyone else had this?

Am not complaining though, in fact am thrilled to be on it and am off to take another lovely tablet now!

I found it settled down after a few days. Imodium long term not ideal so go back to whoever prescribed the met if it doesn't settle in a few days.

I found it settled after a few days or so. Just always always take it with food.

Are you taking the slow release ones?
If it does not stop go back to the Dr and get them changed

Maghribia · 30/03/2012 18:23

No, I'm on the normal release ones, was told about those though!

How did you all find it - were you lucky on just met or clomid as well?

I had ridiculous cycles without the met. After 3 months on met alone I had a 26 day cycle then a 29 day cycle. I ovulated both cycles but had very short luteal phase, 5days one month! I was also ovulating very late.

BUT...

I am now pregnant. I was prescribed clomid 50mg and I honestly just expected to ovulate a bit earlier. I had blood tests to check progesterone and these showed that on day 21 I hadn't ovulated. I had a PEAK on CBFM on day 21 so it thinks ovulation was day 22, I had a +opk back this up. My day 28 bloods confirmed ovulation with prog result of 36. Midwife at fertility clinic told me when to expect my period....it didn't come and a Preg test had a nice line at 11dpo!

So i guess my answer was I was lucky to get pregnant on cloud and metformin. For some people the met is enought, my friend is one of them!

Hi there Iv been on metformin on nd off for 8 yrs- first time I took it I lost 2 stone on weight and fell with my now 6 yr old dd- though I was insulin dependant during pregnancy! I'm back on them again now but have switched to slow release as I also he a gut and bowel disease and they upset my tummy- hope this helps and good luck Smile

Maghribia · 30/03/2012 23:26

Congratulations izzy! That is fabulous news :)

Thank you so much 03angels :) I am quite excited re weight loss, have been trying to shift that tummy for a year! I've heard it's best to carry on with the met while pg, do you mean you had to give yourself insulin while pg with your dd? Sorry am a bit clueless!

When did you all find the best time was to take them? Does it have to be exactly the same time every day? I've been spacing them out but timing has been a bit sporadic, am up to 3 x 500 mg a day now.

Hiya- I had to use insulin injections whilst pg - stopped as soon as I had her though Smile

Maghribia · 01/04/2012 11:13

Is that what they mean by gestational diabetes 03angels? Thanks for the info and am glad it stopped as soon as you had your lovely dd :)

Seem to be used to the met now, came off the imodium and it doesn't seem to be causing the same GI issues. Am now off to do a digital ov test - I know they are not meant to be any good for PCOS but I can't resist. As for the cheapie ov tests, they are as good as useless for me, I can't tell the difference between pos and neg since they both have two lines... Blush

It is Hun- good luck make sure and keep us posted on any good news Grin

izzybizzybuzzybees · 01/04/2012 18:55

I used to take the cheapest and when I got what I thought might be a positive I used a digi to back it up. Worked quite well and then I didn't use as many digi ones as they are so expensive!
