It took us 3.5 years to conceive our first child, fertility issues on both sides. We were told it was highly unlikely to happen naturally but it did and the pregnancy was problem free. I have PCOS, underactive thyroid, weight issues, DH had abnormal and low sperm count.
DD is now 12 weeks, my c section wound still hasn't healed so we're still abstaining from DTD. DH said yesterday that he thinks we should start TTC again in September but he's happy to wait until I'm ready.
I'm in two minds. I am enjoying DD so much at the moment (the baby we never thought we'd get) and want to BF to at least a year (worried knackering first term of pregnancy would make me want to give up and cannot emphasise enough how important BFing is to me). OTOH, it took us so long to conceive the first time, it might not happen again anyway and I'm 34. We always wanted a small gap if we were fortunate enough to get pregnant twice and before having DD, we thought we'd start trying again ASAP. Midwife told us we should wait a year because of having a section. One of the staple holes gaped open 10 days post section and it is still open (being packed and dressed daily at the moment). I assume the inside of the wound has healed properly, it's just this outer hole.
Anyway, I digress. Can anyone share their experiences? I know we're all different but thought other experiences might give me some food for thought.

Can't be loads of he as I'm still in ttc wilderness. But I do know of three people who got pregnant much more easily with baby two. I'm sure it isn't ever straightforward but I feel for your dilemma. If I am lucky to get pregnant (I'm 35 now been trying 15 months) will I ever use condoms again? Hope you get some insight for people who have been through the same x

Ds took 39 cycles of heartache, dd we thought we should crack on in case it took a while again, 10 days later I was puking in the loo whilst watching the 2nd line appear. We only dtd

It took us two years to conceive DS1. We thought we'd wait til he was a year before we started trying again, but decided to start earlier than that, around 9 months, as we were convinced it would take ages again. Six weeks later I was POAS. BFP.

18 months TTC DD and about 18 minutes for DS...

4 years with DC1, 1 night with DC2. It happens!

I got pregnant straightaway when we went for our second baby. That was about 2 and half years after the first one was born. I miscarried that pregnancy and then got pregnant straight away for the second time, and she is now 19 months.

I waited until I felt ready to cope with two children and I didn't feel under pressure to go for the second earlier than I wanted to.

Not me, but a mate - 18 months ttc for number one, first time dtd for number two!

Thanks everyone.
I said to DH last night that instead of doing my own head in analysing what is the best thing to do, I'd just wait until I got my periods back as am more likely to be ovulating then (although TTC for 4 years, I know my ovulation signs quite well and not had any yet). This morning, I had brown discharge which usually means my period is going to start. DD is only 12 weeks old, what happened to no periods for months on end!?!
I'm definitely not ready at the moment, not least because I'm not healed from the section yet. I just am enjoying DD so much, I don't want that to end. These are truly the happiest days of my life.

Congratulations on your dd. At 12 weeks I imagine it's a bit easier now and you're feeling a little more human? Took us 2.5 yes to get dd. She's 15 mo now and periods have just come back so we are now ttc. I felt ready from when she was about 11mo but no periods at the time.

Give your scar time to heal and then just do what feels right. You can try without trying and see what happens ie no contraception but no charting either

Congratulations on your new baby! Must be even more wonderful as you were waiting so long for her to come along. Just wanted to add that I have heard that you shouldn't get pregnant again for a year after a C-Section. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will come along and tell me if I'm right.
