Any point getting blood fertility tests whilst bfeeding? ttc #2

Hello everybody, I've been lurking for a while now and gleaned a wealth of information from Mumsnet (and learned some of the abbreviations) and I think I'm finally ready to stand up and say I really want another baby. Dd is 18 months old and we really want another baby, but.... dd is still breastfeeding so sleep is still a bit irregular, although she does usually sleep 7/8 till 3/4 straight through. Plus she was an ivf baby through unexplained infertility, plus I'm 38 next month, so the odds are a bit stacked anyway. So, I was thinking dh and me should go to the drs and get fertility tests, then all being well I would wean dd and we could start properly with ovulation tests etc and go from there. Basically, will bfeeding affect the outcome of the blood tests and should I wean her first? Sorry for the long post, I didn't want to drip feed (have read this is a no no on mn) but I don't want to wean dd and find I couldn't get pregnant anyway iyswim. Thanks

Yes, breast feeding will affect most of the tests your GP can do. AMH I think would be OK but I don't think many GPs offer this test (or can interpret the results). If you are serious about ttc soon you need to wean I think.

I'm sure lots of people will tell you they got pg while BF or shortly after stopping, but given you needed assisted conception and are worrying now I'd knock the BF on the head and get going on number 2.

Thanks freelance, I thought as much. I've got dd a nice new bed and set up her bedroom really nicely. I'll start on the gradual withdrawal - 3 nights by bed, 3 nights further away, 3 nights by door - soon as we're back from holiday. I think we pretty much need all the help we can get :)
