I have used ovulation kits for the past 4 months and only have about 8 or 9 days between ovulating and the start of my period. Heard that you needed at least ten days for fertilization and conception to happen. Any advice on how to make this time longer or does anyone know any different???!!!!

Would suggest you get a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are really like. This will tell you whether or not you are ovulating. OPK's can be unreliable and have inherant problems.

Although day 3,10 and 21 are standard tests the day 21 can be done a bit earlier or later in the cycle. The first two mentioned measure LH and FSH (these two are important as these play a key role in the initial processes leading to ovulation) and the day 21 measures progesterone levels.

If luteal phase defect is suspected this should be picked up by blood tests.

Hi I don't know if Puppy is still watching these threads but I believe she had this problem and managed to sort it out herself. You could try posting a question to her. I will see if I can get her attention on the ante-natal threads for you.

I have put a request on her ante-natal thread (if it was her) to see if she can help you.

Good luck.

Hiya Artoo is on the we want to fall by fall thread, here is a snippet of one of her postings

"I'm Artoo, 34, trying with DH (35) to conceive our first child. Been trying since July, using BBT to monitor my cycle after coming off the Pill (been on it well over 10 years). Noticed that my luteal phase seemed too short (7 days), so went to see doctor, and started taking vitamin B6. The B6 extended my LP to 10 days, and day 21 blood test showed low progesterone (20.5 when you are looking for 30-35). GP has referred us to the Gynaecologist, and our first appointment is December 20th"

I Hope this helps

Good luck

EXCELLENT - thank you...will definately try the B6 vitamin and hopefully that will make the LP just that bit long enough to make a difference. Thanks Puppy and Jersey for remembering and I will push for some further bloods as well Meerkats...
