Hello ladies, just a few questions on clomid. I am on second month of 50mg of clomid after being diagnosed with unexplainned infertility. The first month i didn't really have any side effects but my cycle was 5 days late which is unusal for me,as you can imagine i thought it had worked and got all excited. When af finally arrived it only lasted 2 day and the stomach cramps were awful. Is this normal???
Also this month i am having terrible mood swings and feel so miserable..i,m sure i'm a nightmare to live with...oh well it must be working i suppose if i feel this way...anyone have any experiences with major mood swings...its not nice..i even hate my job right now!!!

I'm about to start cycle 5 on 50mg Clomid.

I found that the first 2 cycles had no side effects at all and I ovulated nice and early (Day 14 & Day 16). However, Cycle 3 saw side effects start up (really bad night sweats) and I didn't ovulate till Day 26. The sweats continued in Cycle 4 but I ovulated on Day 15.

I haven't had any other side effects, but I guess, as with any medication, everyone reacts differently.

Hi blondebaby,

Are you being monitored at all - ideally scans and a 7dpo progesterone test? If not, are you doing anything to monitor when you Ov yourself, like OPKs or checking cervical mucus? Just if it extended your cycle it probably means it made you Ov later. Could also have extended your luteal phase but not by five days I wouldn't think. But if it's made your period a lot shorter or lighter then I think that's something to talk to your clinic about - Clomid can make your uterine lining thinner which can mean short and light periods. If it's too thin it can't support an embryo so it's worth checking out...but if you're being scanned they should measure this routinely.

Anyway, side effects...I'm on cycle five, third one on 100mg....I've found they tend to vary each cycle though since going up to 100mg I have had the delightful night sweats each month. I think mood swings is v v common though. And I've also found some periods while on it have been extra painful - think that's pretty common too.

Hope that helps - best of luck with it.

hi, I'm also on my second month and having mood swings. I thought I was getting off lightly last month just having night sweats and nothing else. This month I'm an absolute cow most of the time and am really depressed and the night sweats are still there which just makes it worse because I'm tired all the time :( ah well, at least I feel like I'm doing something about it. Don't know how to help with mood swings though, apart from just explain to your partner that its not you its the hormones. Doesn't make it any easier for him though!

My af was also really weird this time, usually I get some warning with a bit of spotting before, this time I just started. Wasn't too painful though.

i'm not really being monitered which i'm not really too sure about. I had a blood test done 1st month on day 21 but thats all i've had to do. Because i've got unexplained they did say clomid might not make alot of difference with me as i do ovulate every month and its great for PCOS. they wanted us to just got on waiting list for ivf but i'll try every option first!! Thanks for all the comments ladies and good luck to you all x
