Progesterone 21 day test result?

Good morning :)

Can I ask for some advice please, we have been ttc for about 10 months (I know not long compared to a lot of you) but I went to see my doc and he suggested doing 2 21 day progesterone tests, my first one came back, not ovulating at 4.6 and this one (just phone for my results) came back satisfactory at 18.5.. I have asked for a telephone appointment so the doc is phoning me this afternoon - am I right in thinking that 18.5 still isn't very high? Should I ask about the likes of Clomid at this stage?

Thanks in advance

Mrs T

Proigesterone is only part of the story; what should also happen as well is for a day 2 blood test to be done to check and compare your LH level against that of your FSH level. Normally these two should be the same; a marked difference between the two could be indicative of there being ovulation problems which can be treated (such blood tests should always be repeated). LH and FSH kickstart the ovulation process, if these two levels are awry then ovulation will be affected.

18.5 as the second result would have indicated that ovulation did not occur.
You ought to be referred now as a couple to a subfertility unit at a hospital rather than the GP continuing to do tests.

Also your man should be tested in tandem with your tests to see if there are any apparant male factor problems.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost; clomid is not suitable for everyone to take.

Thank you Attila, I didn't realise that I'd need a day 2 test aswell (mind you the doc should have..) He did say that my hubby would need a sperm analysis but I thought I'd see what my bloods results were first before getting him to do a sperm test.
Thanks for that, I feel a bit more informed now before my telephone appointment today - appreciated :)
