Who was it said that she didn't know - was it the receptionist or the GP? If it was the receptionist or a secretary then ring back and ask to speak to the GP who referred you for the tests.

HandbagAddiction · 01/02/2006 12:53

TRace2 - if the response comes back with 'normal' or 'no further action required' then my assumption would be that yes - this month you have ovulated. Important thing being that the blood tests can only indicate that you ovulated this month - it cannot dictate whether you will continue to do.

Although you could argue that since there appears to have been no underyling hormonal imbalance picked up...then arguably there should be no reason why you shouldn't continue to ovulate in the next few months...subject to the normal no hormonally driven things which can affect ovulation such as stress, etc.

MeerkatsUnite · 01/02/2006 14:33

Trace2,

What levels did they test?. The important thing here is to make sure the results of these tests are both looked at and explained to you properly. What you have been told is unprofessional.

Results that can be within "normal" ranges if looked at individually can be amiss if the levels are compared against one another so the hormone levels must be compared.

trace2 · 01/02/2006 17:53

so when i have the one on day 3 they will compare, i have phoned them back and they said i should make a appiontment, so i did, but carnt get in till 13 feb

Day 3 is to measure the levels of LH and FSH. These two hormones are very important as they play a huge part in the initial process of ovulation.

Normally these two hormone levels should be about the same. If one level is higher than the other this may be an indicator of there being a hormonal imbalance (these can be treated). This is why both levels should be looked at and compared against one another

flustered · 02/02/2006 21:44

I am 36 and have just had results of a day 3 FSH and LH blood test. The FSH level was 12.5 and LH 10.7 which my Consultant says are too high. I have to have the test repeated for the next two cycles. It took 7 years for me to conceive my first child. My Consultant hinted at early menopause but wouldn't commit himself until I have three results.. Has anyone else had high FSH and LH levels and managed to conceive naturally? I am depressed at the thought that my childbearing days could be at an end. I hoped for more than one child, but am so grateful to have dd

trace2 · 03/02/2006 10:49

oh flustered have you been referd?

OP posts:
flustered · 03/02/2006 13:03

I was referred by my GP and it is the Consultant that has requested the blood tests. I feel I am in limbo at the moment, waiting to have the tests repeated on the 3rd day of my next two cycles. I can't stop thinking about it and am wondering how I am going to get through till April.

trace2 · 03/02/2006 15:31

yes i have to wait for next months bloods and then gp will refer me, so ive longer to wait

I first went to my GP in July. It annoys me they take so long in getting you referred, they did blood tests on me that the Consultant just dismissed because they were at the wrong time of my cycle. [angry. Everything takes so long, in the meantime we have to try and carry on with everyday life. My daughter kept asking me to play with her today. It made me really sad but then I had to tell myself that even if she did have a brother or sister they wouldn't necessarily play together happily.

trace2 · 03/02/2006 21:16

flustered · 03/02/2006 21:45

Thanks for your understanding. Do you get annoyed when people say "Not having another one yet then". Only today when I collected DD from pre-school someone asked me. They don't seem to realise it is like poking a stick in an open wound. and why do I smile and politely say "No"?

trace2 · 03/02/2006 21:56

mm yes i get at your agr wanting one more you must be mad am 40 in april

It's good to hear from someone in a similar situation. Did you have any problems conceiving your DS?
