High Progesterone Results?!

Hi,

I've been TTC#2 for just over 2 years, with only one early M/C along the way. Have been having all the usual tests which haven't shown anything untoward, and am due back at the consultant next week.

I collected my progesterone 7dpo results from my local clinic for the numerous blood tests I've had over the past year, and my results were:
59, 146, 'greater than 191' , and 122.

The print-out said anything over 30 indicated ovulation, so I'm clearly ovulating, but these numbers seem VERY high compared to everything I've read. Obviously I'll be asking the consultant about it next week, but has anyone had similar results? Can it indicate a problem?

TIA

Hi - I'm very sorry to hear about your long wait for DC2 and M/C.

I'm not an expert (but thought you might want a response). If progesterone is v high I would have thought this could indicate that something is not right (it usually indicates pregnancy...). Or you did the test on the wrong day - are you confident when you ovulate?

As you are seeing consultant next week hopefully you will start to get some answers.

Good luck.

Well as certain as I can be - I use a CBFM and can often feel ov too. Thanks for your reply - I'm strangely hopeful that he might say something is wrong which can then hopefully be treated otherwise I think I'll just get the 'unexplained subfertility' sign stamped onto my forehead and sent away as not much more they can do for us...

Can't seem to find anything about high progesterone, only low - I wonder if I'm maybe getting preg but they're not implanting properly or something?? Who knows?!!

Does seem odd. Will be interested to see what the consultant says. Hopefully you'll get full investigations including scans etc.

CBFM won't tell you if you're ov'ing just that your pre-ov hormones are functioning. You need to temp and get a definite rise to be sure of ov. But temping is a big hassle if you ask me.

I was also wondering if you're getting chemicals but you would have had some positive HPTs surely?

Our bodies are so mysterious...

I don't test anymore, but spotting usually starts at 11/12dpo (although last month got as far as 14dpo and was getting hopeful).

Would think that with CBFM consistently giving me a Peak 12 days before AF arriving, along with day 21 progesterone results, it would indicate I am ovulating. Not going to get started on temping, it would send me even more doolally that I already am about the whole thing.

Will report back after seeing consultant next week.

Yes - agree about temping. Can't be arsed. But getting to the point myself that I can't be arsed with TTC, full stop. DS came pretty instantly when I was 37 but at 40 it's all looking a lot harder to get pg (14 cycles along, not a whiff of a BFP). In our case it's the wrigglers that aren't up to scratch - found out in Jan - but I'm sure my eggs etc are a bit knackered despite the myriad supplements I take plus acupuncture. Yawn, yawn.

Like you say - your cycle all sounds normal so no idea what all that progesterone is about. I had mine tested and it was mid 30s, which I gather is just over the required number.

Anyway - hope you get some answers.
