Grrrr, anyone else with a very regular 28 day cycle ovulating late (cd 16, 17 or 18)? or have I missed my LH surge with the stupid CB digital ov sticks??

I have been using ov sticks for 2 months now, and this month decided to use the expensive CB smiley faces one, after not really getting a strong positive result at all with the superdrug cheaper ones last month (on cd15 last month I saw a medium-dark line on the superdrug test. It was not as dark as the control line, but it was only line I got all month. So I thought this might have been my surge?).

Anyway, it is now cd16 this month with the CB smileys and I am not seeing anything. Since cd14 i have been using them twice a day, with first morning's urine and then again at about 5pm.

Anyone else found they ovulate late? My cycle is very regular 28 days - so surely I should be ovulating around day 14? Could I have missed it, even whilst testing twice daily? Could it still happen, either today or tomorrow?? (cd16 or cd17).

  • bit of background, I had an early miscarriage (6 wks) in late January, so this is only my second cycle TTC post-MC, and only my second cycle of ever using the ov sticks (trying desperately to re-capture that BFP feeling, after a happy surprise pregnancy which i am very very sad to have lost Sad). So I am irrationally scared that I am in some way 'broken' from having the MC, and not ovulating at all anymore :( Please reassure me!!

My cycle was longer after miscarriage than it was before. I went from 26 days to 31 days, although it did eventually go down to 29. So it is entirely possible that your cycle hasn't settled down yet and you are still waiting to ovulate.

Don't bankrupt yourself with the cb smileys. If you try the cheapies from the internet, you can order the more sensitive ovulation tests and you might see darker lines then. Some people find they never see a smiley face on the digis even though they know they are ovulating. I know exactly what you mean about desperately wanting a bfp again after a miscarriage, but you aren't broken and you will get there in the end!
The clearblue fertility monitor (basically a very expensive ovulation test) says not to use it until you have had three periods following a miscarriage so I imagine you are possibly also too soon to be expecting to ovulate on the same day each month.

Thanks kat - well if i don't get a bfp this month, then next month I will stick to the cheapies :) Can you recommend a particular brand/website where I can buy the more sensitive ones?

Re: cycles after miscarriages, I was expecting mine to be longer/generally f&cked up, but my period in February came exactly 28 days after my MC bleed started - so I thought that everything had miraculously gotten straight back to normal (hence why I was hoping that ovulation had gone straight back to normal too). Having said that though, I never used the Ov sticks prior to the MC, so maybe I've ovulated late every month of my life, and just never knew it before Confused

This is what you need - I got 100 of them at once! the 20miu ones are the most sensitive.

I get the cheepies from Amazon. That way the come in Amazon packaging and you don't get people being nosey and asking what it is.

My cycle now seems to be 30 - 32 days but I don't OV until day 20. From what I understand having a 28 day cycle and OVing on day 14 is actually the exception rather than the rule.

woop! finally got a positive on the ov sticks today (both a smiley face and a strong double line on the cheapies). Ok, so it's cycle day 17 and I am now freaking myself out about having an unusually short luteal phase Confused. But largely I am just pleased that we can have a serious couple of night's SWI and know that we've done our best this month :)
