After another meeting with my fertility dr we are ready to start (my third) another cycle next month and he talked to me about stopping caffeine now to prepare my body so it is ready next month so my three a day tea habit has to go :( I need to be careful of sugar intake. Just to be careful I am not using nail polish/hair dye/fake tan due to the chemicals. What food etc are you giving up for ttc

I've been TTC #2 for just over a year and had 2mcs in that time, so to increase my chances of a healthy egg I have given up caffeine and alcohol. I've also given up chocolate for Lent (why oh why?!)

Good luck!

LeBFG · 08/03/2012 13:49

After TTC with DS for about 6 months or so, I got really drunk on holiday Blush and had an awful hangover for a week. This helped me kick the smoking habit and drinking become v moderate. Got preggers 6 weeks later...

Not sure which it was (or both) that was the culprit. I know everyone knows this, but I quite often read posters here drinking at AF time...perhaps not such a great idea? (but definately good for the morale!)

Been ttc dc#3 for a year and a quarter. The main thing I seem to have given up is enjoyable sex! Always seems a bit functional these days Grin maybe that's where we are going wrong! Will test that theory later Grin

Also given up alcohol :( and on a super healthy diet now.

winkle2 · 08/03/2012 16:38

no caffeine or alcohol? what the hell am I supposed to drink then?! LOL

Winkly · 08/03/2012 16:40

Booze & diet coke. I love diet coke. I mean really really love it. Quitting it has probably reduced my caffeine intake to about a fifth of what it was previously.

I don't miss booze anywhere near as much as I miss diet coke :(

CraftyGirly · 08/03/2012 19:11

Hi all :) myself and DH have just decided to start TTC #1, I've just come off the pill and am on a plan with the Drs to reduce my citalopram meds over the next 4 weeks when we plan to 'officially' start TTC!

I was reading this thread with interest as bebemad (sorry to read about your probs :( ) mentions nail polish, hair dye and fake tan. sorry to sound ignorant (very new to all this!) but are these things that everyone should avoid whilst TTC, and why? especially interested in the Nail polish!

I've upped my fruit and veg intake to make sure I'm getting at least 5 a day and switching to brown bread and rice etc. Trying to eat less choccy as well! started folic acid yesterday!

I dont drink coffee or fizzy drinks but I am a real tea-pot! is tea OK as it contains much less caffeine or should I also avoid Tea? I think I'd go crazy without my morning cuppa!

mytime777 · 08/03/2012 20:57

I'm on the decaff Yorkshire tea ! Keeping me sane-ish!! Couldnt function with out a cuppa of some sorts !!
Interested to hear about the nail varnish....

GenericDietCola · 09/03/2012 10:21

Winkly my only caffeine intake came from Diet Coke too and of all the things I have given up for Lent (above) I miss Diet Coke the most! Oh well, if it gets me a healthy baby I would gladly give it up forever.

ScarlettInSpace · 09/03/2012 12:56

No Nail Varnish?? Nooooooooo say it isn't sooooooooo??? Sad Sad

bebemad · 09/03/2012 13:23

Crafty and Scarlett I don't think there are any rules on nail polish/hair dye/fake tan I am just being very over cautious due to 2 m/c and this being my third cycle of fertility treatment I just want my body to be au naturel and chemical free, so its not a rule just something I want/need to do :)

Day 3 of no tea, I'm dying for one Blush

Baby dust

phew Grin

fake tan I can [kind off] live without, but bare nails do not a happy scarlett make Wink - and don't even mention taking away my highlights [which reminds me, I need to book in for my roots doing Grin ]

Can you not get decaf tea btw? I have switched to decaf coffee which doesn't taste any different as I've deliberatley bought a premium brand, so I still feel like I'm getting my nice cup of coffee which fulfills the psychological thing iykwim...

ScarlettInSpace · 09/03/2012 13:40

deliberately? Can't spell...

PopcornMouseInBoots · 09/03/2012 14:06

Generic have you tried the caffeine free stuff (or would that sort of defeat the purpose of lent?) - I drink loads of it (well, a glass a day) now I'm pg, it's great :)

I gave up caffeine and cut down on alcohol (was ttc a year, no way I could go a year without booze!)

bebemad · 09/03/2012 14:11

i know how you feel cant wait to get pregnant and have healthy babies then I can do something about the mousey hair! and I am already collecting nail polish for after!
Will look at decaf tea :)

OP posts:
winkle2 · 09/03/2012 16:12

apparently decaf versions are just as bad as the caffeine versions cause of the chemical process it goes through ? sorry girls but I guess green tea is the way forward.

CraftyGirly · 09/03/2012 16:55

Hmm what about fruit teas? Like twinings and stuff? Will be checking packets when I get home!!

beangrower · 09/03/2012 21:03

Redbush tea is quite nice and it's good for you.

GenericDietCola · 09/03/2012 21:27

Pops I was having the caffeine-free Diet Coke, but then I read something about a link between artificial sweeteners and miscarriage, so I gave that up too! There probably isn't anything to worry about on one glass a day, but I am being ultra careful this time and hoping I get lucky!

LeBFG · 10/03/2012 09:37

What about chicory/cereal drinks as an alternative to coffee? I have them strong with a sugar lump when I want a coffee but not the caffine. Don't know about any nasty additives though...

winkle2 · 10/03/2012 20:53

LeBFG - that's a good alternative - thanks for tip

LydiaWickham · 10/03/2012 21:45

Well, I had given up most booze, sugary crap, chocolate and have been cutting down coffee intake (need one a day), but as I'm ovualting RIGHT NOW but DH has the flu and has been out of action for a couple of days and will be for the next few, I'm thinking, sod it, it's not happening this month anyway, time to crack open the additive soaked naughty treats...

ok, maybe just the blue cheese... Wink
