Increasing fertility

What is everyone doing to increase their fertility?

I've read loads of articles online about this but wonder what you all do in practice?

Personally, I'm cutting down on alcohol, caffeine and taking a preg supp. All to no avail so far Sad I'm considering adding a zinc supplement as MIL insists this is what helped her to conceive her first (my DH) after two years of trying.

I had my DH use a zinc supplement - it can help with his contribution I believe!

I'm eating really well, have cut out coffee (but haven't been very successful cutting out wine!), have just cut out tea, and I've heard that pumpkin seeds and brazil nuts are good to eat - or anything with zinc and selenium, for both of you. I'm also getting DH to take a zinc tablet now and again, just started doing that. It's our third month of trying, fingers crossed! Everyone just says to relax and one thing I did read is you're meant to do things that make you happy as then you won't be stressed and your body thinks it's relaxed and ready for a baby - good excuse for shopping and girly tv! Good luck

Thanks for the replies Teladi and Cass ... so zinc for DH as well. Check.

It's our third month of trying too Cass. I feel bad saying that as I know a lot of ppl on here have been trying for a lot longer than that.

I think the stress thing is really not working in my favour. Too much stress at work at the moment, including a really stressful week last month while I was ovulating.

Maybe I should plan a holiday for the next week that I'm due to ovulate!

I heard that eating more high fat dairy products like full fat cheese increases fertility. Got pregnant in first month of trying with DD. Now DD 11 months and still not preg with no 2! Thought to be honest I know nothing about how to do all the TTC stuff with all the testing kits etc...what are they about?? (only recently learned what the letters TTC stood for!!) And DH has been working away in the week since she was born which doesn't help (this will change in the Summer!)

I take folic acid and hubby takes zinc.

We eat more green leafy veg.

Have cut back but not cut out alcohol.

Cut the smoking right back ? have about half a week once I've had a drink so I'm nearly there to giving up completely.

Trying to have a baby has been a good excuse for us to get healthier in general.

But the main thing we're doing is having more sex! No point doing all of the above if you aren?t DTD enough!

CassMonkey · 09/03/2012 19:48

Totally agree with winkle2 about the leafy green veg. And the sex haha!

Try not to be too stressed walnut8. I was reading something somewhere about nations where there are wars and really difficult situations having high pregnancy rates, so it is possible to get pregnant in the most stressful situations - so don't worry too much about being stressed! I just try to leave the stress at the door when I leave work and I make myself stay calm even when things get stressful at work.

Really hope this month is lucky for me - have no idea if/when I'm ovulating as my periods are nowhere near normal since coming off the pill. And I did actually take my temp last month and don't think I ovulated at all. It's weird but at first I thought it would happen straight away, and now I've kind of given up a bit and feel like it's going to take ages or there might be something wrong, maybe everyone worries about that? Right, am going to be more positive from now on!

Walnut8 · 10/03/2012 09:31

Lots of sex being had, which is why I am wondering what else I need to do!

I hope this month is lucky for both of us Cass. Have you tried using ov sticks? I've bought some and the instructions say to start in using on the 15th, so I guess I'll try that this month.

i have a cold at the moment though, and am feeling a bit blah about it all. DH has given me a large brandy so help with my sore throat so that is definitely helping with the relaxing part!
