IVF - pain after egg collection

I had egg collection on Friday and I'm in a bit of pain. My tummy's swollen/bloated and tender.

Has anyone else had EC and what pain did you get afterwards?

I don't want to ring the clinic put of hours number if it's not normally. Equally I'm worried about them not wanting to do ET if it's not normal.

Sorry to hear you're in pain - I think you should phone the out of hours number to get some proper advice. When I had egg collection I don't remember a lot of pain afterwards - discomfort perhaps but nothing that required painkillers or anything.

Hi, I've been through IVF 4 times! It's normal to have some period type pain after egg collection especially if you got more than 17 eggs you can be at risk of OHSS. Drink lots of water and take some pain relief all are ok until egg transfer in a couple of days. Ring your clinic tomorrow if your still concerned. Good luck

Sorry to hear you are in pain. I was fine for 2 days after retrieval then started with period type pain the day before my transfer. Like you I was worried about going ahead with ET feeling as I did. In fact by the time I got to the hospital I was in a real tizzy - totally stressed out and on the verge of tears. Not ideal. The nurse said I should have taken parecetemol which I hadn't done as I was concerned about taking medication - parecetemol is ok - ibuprofen isn't. She also said that the lining would be fine as they check during retrieval. I had no swelling though and I'd really recommend ringing the out of hours number - don't worry about being a nuisance, you ned to put your mind at rest. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies. I rang the OOH and she recommended I go to my local hospital. They checked it out and did my bloods and made sure they were clotting normally. Just got to carry on drinking gallons of water and taking paracetamol and it should recede eventually.

It does feel a little better today and I managed to get a descent nights sleep, previously it had been too uncomfortable to sleep on my side.
I do look like in 4 months gone though Grin
