Does anyone know how long it is best to leave it to try for another baby again after a C section. Have 4 mnth baby and wanted to leave it to nature and breastfeeding, had one period five weeks ago, havent come on again since. Worried if pregnant may have complications cause of c section scar.

Thanks

I was recommended to wait 12 months after C section before conceiving again. I do know of women who have had babies earlier, but assume the risk of problems is higher.

hi there

had both dds by c-section.2nd dd was conceived when dd1 waa 13 months but only because of b/feeding.i wanted her when dd1 was 6 months.midwife said evev after c-section 2 months later you can fall pregnant.i am now thonking about baby no3.but still b/feeding dd of 7 weeks although have introduced bottle at night as she doesnt get colic that way.but when we want ttc and still b/feeding, how/why do we need to space out the feeds?especially at night or even stop b/feeding at night? dont understand why.How does it work?

I asked when still in hospital - one doctor said it would be fine to get pg right away, another said best to wait a year. My friend who had her baby by c/s the same day at another hospital was told not for two years. So I'd say there's no firm medical consensus

I know people who've had two c/s a year or so apart with no problems.

fresco - it works differently for everyone. I didn't start ovulating again until DS night-weaned himself at 9 months, but I know women who started again within a couple of months of the birth in spite of exclusive bf round the clock and others who didn't start ovulating until their babies were completely weaned.

I have had 2 c-sections, and never been given any medical advice on waiting for any length of time. I think the longer you wait the greater your chance of avoiding scar rupture if you wish to try for VBAC. I would never be interested in a VBAC, so didn't really give it much thought. DS was born when DD was 2.2 yrs.

like others I was told to wait at least 12 months before having a second. There is a 2 yr 3 month gap between my two - both were c-sections.

I was adviced to wait 18 months.
