Do period pains any indication to fertility?

I know it sounds really silly question, but we are ttc no. 2. Fell accidently with no.1 but this time round have had various probs since stopping contraceptive inj. over a year ago, periods late to start etc etc.

And i just realised the other day that although i appear to be having 'normal' periods now, i don't get a single inkling of period pain, whereas i used to suffer quite bad with it.

Got me wondering what causes period pain in the first place, is it related to hormone levels and does that then mean fertility????

Just my desperately ttc mind working overtime thats all . Thought there may be some sense in it!

apparently the pain is caused by the womb contracting to empty the lining.
my periods were terrible, i used to be stuck in bed for 4 days.
lots of people told me once id had my babe they would be much better and they are. they are still very heavy but i get hardly any pain now.

I've never had a period pain in my life, Been pg twice.

Hattie05 · 28/01/2006 23:35

Thanks Shaysmummy i did wonder if things weren't so bad after one pg.

Lol Georgevickilou, i didn't think that lack of period pains = infertility just thought a change in someone who used to have them might mean something. Lucky you though!

Hi Hattie, I used to get terrible period pains before having dd 4.5 yrs ago, but tonnes better since her birth. However, we have now been ttc no. 2 for nearly 1.5 years & are currently undergoing investigation for secondary infertility. DD was conceived during 1st cycle of trying btw. I don't think the 2 are linked though..... hope not, anyway

Its frustrating isn't it when you had no probs first time round you don't expect to have trouble now!

I wondered this too. Mine were bad before I had ds. He was conceived first time. When periods came back after 6 months they were much milder. But also have had problems ttc no2. 7 months with nothing then found out I wasn't ovulating every month cos my progesterone levels were low. (Got +ves on ov sticks and have regular periods). Consultant also though I may have scarring in my uterus from c-section. Then had miscarriage which may or or may not be linked to waht was causing problmes conceiving.

someone I met once said her dr recommended having a baby to lessen period pain! She took over a year to conceive first. Don't know if she had problems with second too.

No, I don't think period pain has any bearing on fertility, except in that sometimes severe period pain can be indicitive of conditions which can impair fertility, like endometriosis, for example.

Hattie05 · 31/01/2006 18:31

Thats interesting Jane, coincidenc? or anything in it i wonder .

Expat i have had friends with endometriosis, but i think the pain with that is a different kettle of fish altogether.
