It is extremely unlikely that I am pregnant - so why am I 5 days late??

My husband and I are TTC, but it is hard as he is working away for a few months. The last time he was home was in the run up to my last period, and we did have sex but my period came like usual, as I expected it to as it is unlikely I was ovulating when we had sex.

Anyway, we arranged this month's visit to be at a time I'm likely to be ovulating. He's due to arrive on Monday, my period was due last Saturday. But it hasn't come! I've been having period type feelings on and off since about Friday but nothing's happened.

I was meant to be finishing about now and instead I haven't even started! This is just sod's law isn't it? It's going to start on Sunday night and will last for the whole of his visit I am sure!

Um - have you tried a preggers test.... may as well rule it out? Confused

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 17:40

Well yes, that is the obvious answer I know. But I was at work when I posted and was thinking about it more as a colleague has mentioned she is very late, and didn't have access to any tests. Now I am back at home I think I will POAS! Though I'm sure it will be negative and then all my hopes will be dashed!

OOOooo hope not!! Hope you get your BFP!! Grin

minceorotherwise · 23/02/2012 18:34

Did you do it????

minceorotherwise · 23/02/2012 18:36

Did you not read the mumsnet t&c's ? They state specifically that if you mention you are going to POAS, then you have to do it live.

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 20:32

Whoops, no sorry, must have missed that rule!

Anyway, I have POAS and as I suspected it was negative. So instead of being pregnant I'm just really late, just in time for my husband to come home for a visit that was supposed to be at a 'good' time of the month! I bet I start just as he arrives.

I'm feeling pretty down in the dumps actually. I have a nice life, I really do, and I am really thankful for what I have but when it comes to little things like this I really have some shitty luck sometimes!!

Ok, I've just looked at the test again and there are now 2 lines. However, it's more than 3 hours after I took the test so I can't trust it all can I? (Please can I?!)

OP posts:
minceorotherwise · 23/02/2012 21:26

You can't trust it after 3hrs I'm afraid. BUT, you might have discarded too soon?
Can you POAnotherS in the morning and wait a bit longer........

HealthCareProfessional · 23/02/2012 21:27

Do another one....quick!

maxpower · 23/02/2012 21:44

sorry to put a dampner on this, but I've been 2 weeks late about 3 times in my life for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 21:45

Sorry health, I don't have another one and don't drive so it would be hard to get to a supermarket at this time of night.

I will have to buy another one after work tomorrow (if my period hasn't started before then, which it probably will now I've got my hopes up again!).

Ok Mary, the other regulations state that if at least two of us are ready and waiting, and you have a stick, you have to pee on it, to order

(feverishly makes up more rules for other threads, rubs hands mwah ha ha)

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 21:49

Hmm, ok I'll try and remember that for tomorrow if I do need to poas again!

The last two times I've been pg this is what happened to me. The test came up positive after the time limit..

I would test again but make sure you use first morning urine.

Fingers crossed for youSmile

My SIL had loads of negative tests including blood tests and no bleed for 3 months. Her baby is due in May :) When we were TTC and I was first pregnant my symptoms were all about that late feeling so I POAS just to get the 'negative' over with and for the period to come - it was positive. I think it is def worth you doing another test - good luck

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 22:15

But I am right though aren't I that it is extremely unlikely that I'm pregnant? If I were I'd have had to have conceived after ovulation happens for most women, had a normal period a few days later, then missed the next month's?! I must stress - there has been no TTC at all since my last period. So if I were pregnant I must be pregnant from last month, so surely a test now would show positive pretty much straight away?

OP posts:
minceorotherwise · 23/02/2012 22:20

Well yes and no, how heavy was your last period? If lighter than normal it could have been an implantation bleed? Are you using ovulation sticks, ie do you know for definite when you are ovulating?
Sorry, don't want to give you straws to grasp, it's obviously a possibility, but only you know how likely

Uglymush · 23/02/2012 22:22

Tests are not always that easy to use. I don't want to get your hopes up as I know how painful each period is when you are TTC. But it is possible to have a period when you are pregnant. Also people do ovulate at different times which don't fit in with the 'norm'. Have you tried the clear blue ovulation kits? We used them for 5 months and swear they are what helped us, as we went by the 'norm' for ovualtion and was actually a couple of days different to this. The best thing to do is POAS again tomorrow, if still negative and still no period go to your GP for a blood test.

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 23/02/2012 22:37

I can't really remember what the period was like as I was just thinking it was a normal period so didn't pay much attention. I know I felt really rough the first day, which is usual, but I can't remember how heavy it was. Probably pretty normal I think.

Haven't used ovulation tests yet. Probably will start to use them though .

If you aren't pregnant, I would defo recommend them. They just give you so much more accuracy on when is your best chance to try. Responsible for my two!!!!
