symptoms of ovulation

I know its probably been done elsewhere, but could you share your ovulation symptoms please? Having been on the pill since I was 16 and not ovulating at all since coming off it 18 months ago, I'm now on clomid and waiting to ovulate, so it'd be good to know what it's acually like so I know what to watch out for! I've been given OPK but as I've got PCOS I hear they aren't so reliable. I'm on day 13 but OPK was negative yesterday (will be testing again later today). So far I've not really felt anything different...

I don't remember getting ovulation symptoms until I hit my thirties but now aside from the the EWCM I know I have ovulated because I have a few hours to a day when I have a pain in my side. It's like a tight pain where it feels almost uncomfortable to straighten up and my right boob goes lumpy and is sore.

Hope that this helps and good luck with the Clomid!

Since TTC, I have noticed I get a few spots, sore boobs & generally PMT type symptoms mid-month, so assume this is ovulation. Plus CM changes for the middle 10 days at most (cd8 to about cd16). I'm also starting to use OPKs this cycle, so will let you know if it tallies with the symptoms!! I don't get pain, although some people do.

I get a slight sharp pain in either the right or left side. No other symptoms really.

dontcarehow,

OPKs are very problematic to use if PCOS is present; infact I would go as far to say they are not worth using if you ahve not ovulated in the past 18 months. These kits measure LH; this particular hormone is something that many PCOSers have an excess of so the kit ends up reading that level.

You should be monitored whilst on clomid with preferably both blood tests and ultrasounds. No monitoring is unacceptable as you then have no idea whether its doing what it is supposed to be doing (clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder). Monitoring like I've mentioned will give you a fully accurate picture; signs like CM etc can be misleading when PCOS is an issue.

You should ideally also be under the care of a gynae at a subfertility unit.

Atilla thanks so much. I am being monitored, I had a day 12 scan and have another booked for day 17 unless the OPK tells me I'm ovulating. I did wonder about them giving me the OPK. The thing is, I've been diagnosed with PCOS but the scan shows that they definitely are not polycystic...they've just gone on my history and the fact that I've not had a period for 18 months. So its unclear whether I am or not. If I am then I need to be looking out for other signs as the OPK won't work properly.

Hi dontcarewhat, nt sure if this will help but read a forum post from a natural fertility expert on Pride Angel who explains signs of fertility, I have included forum.prideangel.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=537 the link for you to read, hope it helps! Good luck xx

dontcare I too was diagnosed with PCOS, but on the multiple scans I've had there have never been any cysts.

Metformin helped me regulate my cycle, and I'm now also on Clomid to assist in ovulation.

I was told by my GP and the consultant at the hospital, that with being on Clomid and having PCOS, tha the tests could give lots of false readings and the best approach was to have sex either 2 to 3 x a week, or every other day within 5 days of finishing the Clomid.

Good Luck xxx
