How long after C-sec to try for DC2?

Just that really - how long should we wait before trying for our second? Birth was ELCS, no problems in particular - he was breech.

DS is 2 months old.

I don't know, what did your doctors say? I wouldn't be tempted by less a year really.

FWIW my sister has had 4 CS, will have a 5th in July. Her oldest child will by then be just 8- I can't quite remember the age gaps but I think it's something like June 2004, December 2005, March 2008, January 2010 (and will be July 2012) so 18m-2 y between each. My sister's scar is not pretty but she's not in too bad shape considering.

I didn't ask my doc but googling seems to say to wait either 6 months or a year. Just curious what other MNers have done.

They told me at least a year. But it was an emcs, not sure if that makes a difference?

BadRoly · 21/02/2012 23:02

I don't remember being told how long after dc1 (elcs for breech too) but there are 21mths between dc 1 & 2 as we waited a year Smile

AThingInYourLife · 21/02/2012 23:08

I wasn't told how long to wait after DD1, but waited a year.

Was advised to wait a year after DD2 (by a midwife), got pg after about 19 months.

MuslinSuit · 21/02/2012 23:16

A year is looong! DH wants to get cracking - he wants a Porsche and therefore to send me back to work ft asap Grin

I was told to wait 6 months after emcs, became pregnant again after 10 months and had elcs last week. Textbook operation, they've gone in via the same scar and I had no 'scar pain' during the pregnancy (although I carry small).

mamasunshine · 22/02/2012 07:26

I wasn't told anything. Had an emcs and was pg 6months later, vbac with dc2 then pg again 9months later! Absolutely no problems scar wise.

TubbyDuffs · 22/02/2012 07:32

I was told to wait 12 months after my first section, but have heard other people told different advice.

I would say definitely wait 6 months, as I've read that your body needs 6 months to recover from a pregnancy.

quitcomplaining · 22/02/2012 07:36

I have a friend who got pregnant 4 months after her emcs. She was closely monitored during late pregnancy and told she had to book in for a elcs as the risk of scar repturing was high. They told her to wait a year after dc2 if she wanted another.

drcrab · 22/02/2012 07:37

I think you need to consider both the scar healing and your body healing. We have 2.7 years between them - elcs and then vbac. I would wait at least 6 months to start.

Also other things to consider like family support, nursery fees etc. it's expensive paying 2 lots of nursery fees at the same time!!!

MuslinSuit · 22/02/2012 09:07

Drcrab - I'm going to be a SAHM for pre-school years, so no nursery fees but it's why DH wants to get cracking - sooner we complete our family, sooner I get sent back to work lol.

Thanks for advice. Guess it's just practice for now (if I even can feel up to that!)

Ah no, it's all lighthearted - I'm broody again already! He's being lovely and patient, we haven't even done the necessary deed yet Smile

I was also advised to wait a year.

SoozleQ · 23/02/2012 11:19

I was advised to wait 12 months following CS for breech baby. A friend of mine accidentally fell preganant when her first was 7 months old - she lost her second baby at 37 weeks and nearly died herself following uterine rupture because her CS scar hadn't healed sufficiently. It's not a risk I would be prepared to take having heard what she went through.
