Using BUPA for PCOS investigations

Has anybody made a successful claim with BUPA for this sort of thing?

I have only had my health insurance policy for about 9 months and haven't used it before, so I'm a bit unsure of the process.

I'm ttc but have had no period since coming off the pill 3 months ago. I have had blood tests - all normal but have not responded to progesterone (i.e. no period). GP wants to refer me for an ultrasound to rule out PCOS and I asked for a private referral to a gynaecologist to - figured BUPA would cover it if it was under the guise of diagnostics for oligomenorrhoea/PCOS and not about fertility. My GP agreed.

The problem is she has written a referral letter which mentions that I am trying to conceive. It also says I previously had irregular periods (when I was younger, but before the insurance was taken out). Does anyone know the process for getting a pre-authorisation number off BUPA? Will they want to see this letter or will they just send the GP a form? If they will want to see it, should I phone my GP and ask her to write another without this information? She seemed amenable to helping me get the treatment privately.

Thanks in advance Smile

I have claimed from BUPA for amenorrhea, I just called up and said my GP has referred me to a gyne to investigate, they didn't ask for a letter but I did need the letter when I had my appointment with the gynae. They may ask you if it's fertility related, and depending on your policy you may be covered for fertility investigation anyway ( but not fertility treatment) you need to read your policy documents.

Hope you managed to get it sorted x
