Do OPK's work?

Just a quick question, I have been using OPK's for a few months now (clearblue digis) and I have never had a smiley face positive. I have signs of ov such as ewcm and a break out of spots, I sometimes feel ov pain too. Does anyone know why the opk don't show a positive for me? I usually test around 2pm from cd 8. I can't chart my temp as I am such a rubbish sleeper.

They didn't work for me and I think it's because I drink so much during the day my wee was always too dilute.

I've started using a clearblue fertility monitor as you use FMU with that - after 4/5 months with no lines/smiley faces on OPKs I have started getting highs and peaks on the monitor which is a great relief - although I am ovulating a week later than I thought I was!

If you are using the CB digis the monitor isn't that more expensive tbh, I got mine on Amazon for about £60 and the sticks are about £20 a box which might last you 1 or 2 months.

Good luck!

Do you wait 3-4hrs before testing so your wee is fairly concentrated? I also test around 2pm.

I do find they work for me very well, but I know some people find they don't get positives with them.

impatientone thanks, I think I will leave the cbfm for a while. DH feels enough pressure with just the opk's. I buy them from ebay so never paymore than around £8 for a pack.

eurochick Yes I wait until I am bursting. Ah well, I may be one of those who they don't work for.

They didn't really work for me until I got the digital ones
Personally I think there is only a short time period to catch it.
don't test first thing, its not the same as pg test. Midday is supposed to be a good time.
I only get positive results if I test all the time

SweetieDoesIt · 16/02/2012 11:42

blizy I don't get a positive on the CB digital tests either. I usually test at 6pm when I get in from work. I do get a faint line on the internet cheapie ultra sensitive sticks, this is usually a couple of days around OV time.

I have started temping too, although I am also a bad sleeper I did see a definite trend and the temp rise post OV. Might be worth giving it a go for a month to see how you get on.

I have used amazon OPKs this cycle for the first time and not had a positive but have had all the signs of ovulations - cramps, EWCM incresed sex drive. I also chart my temp and I have had a temp rise this morning so assuming my temp stays high for the next two mornings I would say I have ovulated but it wasn't picked up on OPK. I stop drinking and go to the loo at 3:30pm and test at 6pm.

The sticks didn't seem to work for me either whereas the Clearblue monitor did, so I think it must be that some people have too dilute wee during the day or something, and CB works cos it's FMU.

Mine correlated with the signs you mentioned though so it sounds like you can probably tell when you are ov'ing anyway.

Good luck!

Thank you all! Fingers crossed this is the month. I am on month 9 of ttc now, I realise that is not very long to some people but it feels like an age to me, especially since we conceived dd on the first month. I wish all of you all the best.

I've been using the Amazon cheap dip stick type ones.
I have found that it needs to be the second wee of the day to get a positive.

I tend to have a wee as soon as I get up, then a second just before I leave the house to go to work, about 45 minutes later. That one will show positive, but none other throughout the day.
