Hi everyone,

Am one or two days off AF being due and have just taken two of the Ebay cheapy 10miu/ml tests. First one I almost immediately threw in bin as the control line came up as clear as day and couldn't see anything else but then after about two mins I could see a very faint line on the test line so did another and same thing....it is very faint though but definately there. Do you think it could be faint just because I'm still two days before AF due or am I just kidding myself and it could be that I'm reading the test after too long (says don't read after 10 mins but if it's negative surely the line wouldn't appear even after 10 mins). Arrgh, this is horrible!!

A line is a line, generally speaking! But if in doubt, buy a "proper" test and try that - I never found internet cheapies (the OPKs, at any rate) as sensitive as they made out.

With dd the line was very faint and definitely a bpf. Wait until the morning and take another one with first wee of the day! If that is of no use then wait a few more days and buy a digital. I hate not knowing too, try and get out and about and keep your mind on other things (I know it's not that easy, but try). Hope it works out and you get bfp soon.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 14/02/2012 13:15

If you buy a proper one don't get clearblue!!! They are notoriously difficult to read!

Thanks both, the waiting is awful isn't it. What do you think of the First Response tests? Any good?

I've never used FR, but I've found Asda's own brand to be reliable and not too expensive. They can be used up to 4 days before AF is due.

ShowOfUmblestAnds · 14/02/2012 13:59

You do NOT need to buy an expensive test. Ebay cheapies are as good, if not better (certainly in terms of sensitivity) than other ££ brands.

The faintness of the line is due to testing early. I've only ever used ebay cheapies and tested + at 6 days before af. I actually don't advocate early testing if you're not going to believe the result and go and spend money on other tests. Apart from a couple of medical reasons, if you're seeing a line, it's because you're producing hcg. If you're producing hcg, you're pregnant.

Wait until the day your period is due or even longer if you want a very clear answer. Test with your first morning urine.

Buy you are pregnant atm. Very early stages. If a faint line is appearing within 10 minutes, it's because you are growing a baby inside you. Grin Believe it.

farfallarocks · 14/02/2012 14:21

Oooooh congrats, FR are very good clear for early testing

notso · 14/02/2012 14:34

My first very faint line-if-you-squint-and-hold-it-up-to-the-light is 14 months old now, and my other one is kicking me in the ribs and due in 10 weeks.

Pipbin · 14/02/2012 14:37

Buy some First Response from amazon. That'll stop you testing until the come.
I have to say that I don't advocate early testing either.

Just look at the stats from fertility friend. 25% of people getting a positive on 7DPO end up having a chemical pregnancy. Is it worth the heartache?

I know how hard it is to wait, but I would rather wait than be full of false hope.

Sorry if that is all seems rather boring, clinical and uncaring.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 14/02/2012 14:40

I had to hold mine up to the light too, DH wouldn't believe it was a line so kept wanting me to do more (all equally faint!). Then he said maybe I was "a little bit pregnant" Grin

DS is 4 now Smile

CheshireDing · 14/02/2012 15:53

We had those cheap strip things and I did about 5 of them over 2 weeks because the initial line was not there, then so faint and I was sure I was pregnant. She is now 4 months Grin

As said earlier "a line is a line I reckon" :)

PopcornMouse · 14/02/2012 15:56

I have to be honest, I'm with pipbin. I saw a stat online that said there's a 75% liklihood of miscarriage before AF Shock and I realised that with stats that high, I'd rather not know til after AF was due, tbh...

AnaisB · 14/02/2012 15:58

IME very faint as long as it's within the time frame. After the time limit is a different matter.

KatAndKit · 14/02/2012 15:59

I got a "maybe it's a line" at 3 days before period due. It was very light, despite it being fmu, using cheapie strips.

I was going to wait a couple of days and keep using the cheapies, as there really is no need to buy expensive tests.

However impatience got the better of me and I went off to Superdrug and got a FRER and a Superdrug own test and got a quite definitely positive result that same afternoon.

I would be cautiously optimistic if I were you and would definitely test again.
