Positive pg stories despite poor SA?

Hello ladies

I would greatly appreciate a positive boost from you lot - if you could tell me your + stories of a BFP despite low male fertility.

I have been ttc DC2 for over a year after conceiving DC1 quickly at 37 (DS is about to turn 2). I have no idea how 'fertile' we were 3 years ago as I never had to make much effort to conceive... Confused But we've recently had a pretty poor SA result for my v lovely DP - motility at only 20%. He's being a doll and is now off booze and trying acupuncture and Chinese herbs, plus manvits (though he's been on the last two since early Nov and we still got poor SA at the end of Jan).

We have the added pressure that I'm 40 though my fsh and amh suggest I could still get pg and I know I'm ovulating around the same time each month with an ok LP. I'm due an HsG but tbh I don't think there's much problem with me - my period is v regular, I'm on a healthy diet, do herbs/supplements/acupuncture and yoga etc. I could do with being less obsessive Grin... but ironically that has started to happen since we got the SA result as I feel like I've finally got to the bottom of this prolonged ttc malarkey.

I feel like we could still get lucky some time this year, but would love to hear from you guys if you've won this battle!

TTFN

I'm halfway there I hope! My DH had a terrible sa, 0% rapid, 15% motility. They finally discovered he had high prolactin levels, have they checked your DH's? Prolactin is a hormone, if it is too high it decreases testosterone and then lowers sperm count. Symptoms include low sex drive and low mood (he'd been diagnosed with depression) amongst other things. Snoring is associated with it.
Now DH has been on treatment for a couple of months he has more energy and increased sex drive :) he's also stopped snoring! we're hopeful there's nothing else stopping us now! It's important that they investigate to see of there's a reversible cause. Hth and you get your bfp soon.

(Ps I used to be HaveALittleFaithBaby)

Oh hi there; I remember. That's so great about your DH. Snoring you say. That is an issue with Ta but have noticed that it's improved since booze was binned.

We will do another DS after more acu I think.

So hope you get your BFP soon. Xxxx

SA not DS!

My dp had 2 really bad SA results. Can't remember off the top of my head but it was a low count, low motility and only 1% morphology (increased to 2% at 2nd SA)

We were told that our best chance would be ivf with icsi or maybe iui if we were lucky.

I actually managed to get pg 5 times in under 2 years (4mc) and we now have a 1yr old dd.

Good luck with ttc.

I don't have a positive story for you (yet!), but I wanted you to know that you're not alone. We have been trying for our first for almost 2 years. DH has been told that he has very low count and poor morphology, although the motility is actually good. We are now waiting for IVF with ICSI. But our gynae told us that it is perfectly possible that it might still happen naturally, all it takes is for one sperm to make it. This is what we were told to do to improve our chances:
DH to take Vit A,C,D,E, zinc, selenium, folic acid and pine bark (supposed to be good for morphology)
No smoking
cut back on drinking
no tight underwear, hot baths, long cycle rides
SWI every other day

Good luck!

Well im not pregnant yet (for reasons to do with me we suspect) BUT the tests do vary. Dh went from 3% morphology and sluggish motility to 7% morphology and excellent motility three months later. He took well man, pine bark, vit c, cut down on the beer and coffee and took up swimming. He also stopped having hot baths and having his laptop on his lap. I didn't realise how much they change. Also, he had left it 5 days before the SA and next time he left it three? Good luck x

Thanks all - that's really helpful. Swimming sounds like a good idea whereismywine (Great tag!) but I know my DP would struggle to fit that in, but is otherwise doing the other stuff advised. I hope you get things sorted out asap - I know how hard it is TTC now and my heart goes out to everyone who hasn't got there straight away, q frankly.

DP did have a nasty rugby accident when he was 18 - affected the crown jewels - but then we had our DS with relative ease not so v long ago, so hopefully we will get there eventually. Of course, my fertility is declining... boo - but not past it yet! I hope we see an improvement with next SA. Our Chinese acupuncturist is v confident she can help.

So glad you got your DD in the end mumatron - that's a v + story.

Thanks mrsden for advice re' SWI every other day. Wasn't sure if should be every 3 days. Should that be throughout cycle too? Ie, more sex is better than less? I really hope you get that BFP soon. 2 years is a killer.
