Ok Ladies, I'm confused.....

Not that it takes much, but hey!

I'm on my first (ever) cycle on Clomid this month, and have been given provera to take to induce a period if I'm not pregnant.

Cause of infertility is PCOS mainly.

However, since I've been taking Metformin, and have been on a regular steady dose for a few months, I am getting bleeds anyway.

My cycle is long (41 days and has been the same length for the last 4 months, so seems like it'#s settled to a regular pattern), but if I'm bleeding anyway every cycle, why the Provera?

Or does it do something else other than indude a bleed?

Very confused, and every time I go to the OB/GYN it's a different person I see as thry seem so busy, so there's no continuity of care, and all the different consultants have given me totally different answers when I have asked the same questions.

Help me out Mumsnetters!! If I'm having a period anyway, do I still need the Provera?

PCOS here too - I became pg on my second cycle of Clomid, I have a long cycle (not even regular bleeds when I'm not on the Pill) and no-one offered me Provera. Which suggests that (whether there is any benefit to it or not) you may not need the provera.

One thing - hope someone has pointed out to you that if you have a long cycle your ovulation may well be further into it - I found ovulation predictor kit useful (very new then, my DD is 13 now).

So if I'm bleeding anyway (since on Metformin have regular 41 day cycle), do I still need the Provera? I thought that was just if you didn't have a regualr blled, to "bring it on"?

I don't know TBH, as I never had it, but I can't see why you would need it either.

I was lucky I had a very good GP who was clued up on subfertility issues, she was rather more helpful than the consultant - if I'd had a question like this I'm sure she'd have known the answer. It might be worth you asking your GP, they should either know or be able to find out for you.

So, if I contine to have a 41 day cycle and have a natural bleed I'm not gonna bother with the Provera, as it seems they are just to induce a bleed, so you can take the next lot of Clomid.
