High dose folic acid and pre-natal vitamins - can they be taken together?

My consultant has recommended I start taking 5mg folic acid now in preparation for my next pregnancy (had 3 m/c last year). I am already taking Pregnacare Conception vits which contain folic acid and was wondering if these two combined would be too much? Sorry if a silly question but have looked on here and Dr. Google and there seems to be conflicting opinions. I stupidly forgot to ask my GP today when I collected the prescription as had a list of other things to talk about Confused.

No, and in any case your body doesn't store excess. The prescription amount is ten times what is in pregnacare so I reckon that tiny amount more will not be a problem in the slightest.

Are your prescription tablets 5mg each? I think Pregnacare has 40mcg folic acid in them, so I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem to have 5.4mg each day. I'm also taking a high dose of FA, but get mine in 80mcg tablets from Holland and Barrett, so just make up the amount on top of the Pregnacare. HTH, and good luck!

I take 5mg folic acid, my MW last time round recommended taking pregnacare or similar in addition, so I assume it must be fine!
