Anyone else experienced a false positive? I had positive home pg test and positive urine test in hosp. Blood tests negative and scan showed no pregnancy. Clinic have been pretty rubbish and not sure what this means/ what to do next? Thanks for reading

I haven't but didn't want to read and run. I am sorry Sad

carrotsandcelery · 30/01/2012 17:19

Hopefully someone will be along in a minute who can explain this.

Hi, I have had what would seem to be 3 false positives in the last 2 weeks; AF has still not shown up, apart from some scant spotting.

I would imagine that maybe you had a chemical pg. How early did you test? And was this before your period showed? Have you had any bleeding?

I suggest in the first instance you speak with your GP and see what they recommend.

I am sorry for what you are going through and I hope that you get some answers soon.

mummysfirsttime · 30/01/2012 17:46

Thanks. GP just as rubbish tbh.
Took pg test when I was 5 days late. Some spotting at 5w+6d with some mild cramps nothing major. Drs don't seem worried but I can't help being concerned.

Mooley how do you know yours are false positives and not actually pregnant?

At 5 weeks there should be a sac evident on a scan and the blood test should pick up hCG level. It is possible that the urine tests were false positives, but 2 does seem highly unlikely (the jury is currently still out on my situation).

In my honest opinion, it could either be that you were not pg and the stress of all the worry has caused your period to be late, or you were pg, but unfortunately it's not stuck.

I do think you should make another appointment with your GP and let him/her know exactly how confused and worried you are and ask them exactly what they think is happening.

It could just be a shy bean!!!

I don't actually know at the moment - i am waiting to go and see my GP to get a blood test; but I have PCOS and this is the first month I have actually thought I ovulated but it is possible that i did not ovulate.......again!!!

mummysfirsttime · 30/01/2012 18:22

Thanks. I'm going to make an appt for this wk and see what they say. Def no sac just a few blood clots. Yeah I managed to confuse the hospital a little as blood test negative and urine positive but blood is more accurate Sad
Good luck I hope it all works out for you x

Sorry it is all so confusing. I wonder if chemical pregnancy sometime urine tests stay positive for awhile. Was it a poas urine or lab urine test?

freelancescientist · 31/01/2012 20:28

We had a patient once who had strange antibodies in her blood and urine which made HPTs always positive - they cross reacted with the test strip - but the lab tests which measure the level of hCG directly in her blood gave an accurate result - she'd been bitten by a weird rodent on holiday! Not sure that is helpful but wanted to let you know it is not impossible to get strange results on HPTs.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you and hope you get some decent help and care from the people who are supposed to be looking after you.

Lisamoo · 22/03/2012 09:24

Hi all hoping someone may have some answers for me, I've had 3 very faint positive HPT over the last 3 days, all with early morning urine, (First response tests) I am approx 11-13dpo cycles so irregular I didnt know when I could start testing.
Do you think this could be an early miscarriage? The lines haven't gotten any darker but were all visible within the 3 mins.
Pls help

MooleyWooleyShamaLamaDingDong · 22/03/2012 09:47

Lisamoo there are a lot of people here who have had faint lines and gone on to have normal, healthy pregnancies. I would wait a couple more days and test again. Have you tried using a ClearBlue Digital? Gives a simple Pregnant or Not Pregnat (and if you get the one with the conception indicator can also tell you roughly how many weeks from conception). At least there are no lines to look at!! :)

Fx'd, but I would say congrats :)

Lisamoo · 22/03/2012 21:09

I have used a clearblue and it was negative but that was couple of days ago, I've read so many stories about clinical pregnancys I've been getting worried cos the lines not gettin darker.
Thank u for the reply I'll keep testing, been ttc for 5. Yrs now so am struggling to believe it could actuall be happening!

kirrinIsland · 22/03/2012 21:24

Lisa I don't think clearblue digitals are that sensitive. I had a negative on one when other tests were positive - I'd try again if I were you :)

Lisamoo · 22/03/2012 21:39

Thanks, I know they all tell you how sensitive they are but I don't know what my hormone levels would be, I read that implantation can take 6-12 days, anyone know if this is true?

blackcatsdancing · 24/03/2012 08:34

yes i've read that in several places. I think taking beyond 10 days is unusual but does happen.
