Background:
PCO not syndrome. 2 or 3 natural periods in life.
More rounds of clomid that only worked once at 50mg first time.
Fell pregnant naturally in the 'clear cycle' before IVF.

Had 2 natural periods since dc1. Went to doc 6dpo asking to see where we are at had 'day21' bloods at 7dpo. Confident I ovulated due to a combination of opk and cm.
Had a symptoms of first pregnancy and thought I may pregnant but pregnancy test at 14dpo says bfn.
Symptoms went but sore boobs are returning.

Blood test including pcos profile said:
Normal.
No action
Not consistent with pcos
Progesterone levels: 6.4
Oestrogen levels: 3.94.
Awaiting to speak to doc. In the meantime: what the Jeff does normal mean? 6 is low? I thought they want 10 in unmedicated cycle & 15 in medicated?

Last week my boobs were throbbing I looked bloated, my gums were bleeding I had loads of cm.

Now boobs hurt a bit and gums bleed. Help please! I am seriously frustrated! Im over 14dpo & nothing! I
According to my last cycles: 48 days nov11 and 43 days dec11 I'm not late yet.
I thought you couldn't ovulate on a cycle longer than 35 days?
If I did ovulate as normal I presume means I must be pregnant or I come on?

I am so lost! Please advise and hold my hand Sad

Just to add: this is the first cycle I've had any symptoms other than crampy period pains which I had last week.
Why only boob pain now?

I ovulated on day 18-19- cm and opk confirm this. I also had the EWCM a week after ov.

Can't add much but I share your frustrationsSad
I thought ewcm should stop abruptly if ov occurs? Opk only detects increased LH not the actual ov. The prog test would tell you, but I can't remember what the numbers mean. But I had the tests the month I conceived DD and was told unlikely ov. Week later BFP, so fingers crossed for you

PreHeatedOven · 28/01/2012 07:53

Thanks for your reply. It is so confusing!
Apparently EWCM a week after ov is considered normal due to rising hormone levels- cant remember if its progesterone or not!

My brain hurts!

Whose care are you under currently, it sounds like the place or person you are seeing is completely useless. I would certainly seek the advice of another clinic or ask your GP to refer you to another unit.

If this progesterone level was taken on or around day 21 then a level of 6 would indicate that ovulation did not occur (they usually like to see a level of 30 or more).

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/01/2012 08:50

EWCM is a very poor indicator of ovulation in any event.

PreHeatedOven · 28/01/2012 16:39

Just GP now I've had the bloods back I'll be back off to my lovely consultant who does know what she is talking about thankfully.

I was unaware that cm could not be used in conjunction with opks as an indicator of ovulation.
I don't temp perhaps I should.
What else can I use?

I knew 6 was low so why my results came back normal frankly perplexes me.
Any ideas to how they came to this conclusion?

Thanks for your reply.

Oh and AF arrived this morning so can move on now. I expect some decent answers when this GP calls I'm telling you.

I don't know why they say 6 is normal. My blood screen result sheet indicated that 30+ was "normal" (i.e. confirmation of ovulation). I think you need to make sure you get to that consultant to get some answers.

If you are ovulating regularly, EWCM is a good warning indicator of when it is likely to happen, but if you look at the anovulatory charts on fertility friend is is clear that a lot of women get it without ovulating.

bugsylugs · 28/01/2012 16:46

As day 21 should be greater than 30 . But lab results will say 6 is ok as it is for certain parts of the cycle.

PreHeatedOven · 28/01/2012 20:12

Sorry bugsylugs could you explain a bit further please? What part of the cycle is ok? I am so annoyed they did not give me any further info.
Thanks for your reply :) cannot wait to see my consultant, just someone who understands and is happy to explain makes such a difference.

preheatedoven day 21 progesterone is to see if ovulation has occured so you would expect a higher level as is an indicator of ovulation. So in luteal phase of cycle normal levels are 12-90. In early cycle first few days follicular phase normal range is

PreHeatedOven · 29/01/2012 21:33

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.
I think from what you said: 6 is normal but not for ovulation.
The tests were done 7dpo to what I thought was ovulation.

I just hope this GP can at least explain...I'm not hopeful do hopefully she will refer me to my consultant before the original planned August deadline if not already pregnant by then...which isn't looking too likely!

Thank you again

Am I right in thinking you were originally going for ivf? Was that due to time of TTC or other? If so I would push for referral now regret I did not we were told we would need ICSI but had miracle ds waited 2 yrs before going humph. Also worth repeating progesterone it is usual to not ovulate the occasional month but sounds like more often with you. Why wait till August with your history madness. Does not stop you trying in the meantime

bugsylugs · 29/01/2012 22:46

Yep you understood right

bugsylugs · 29/01/2012 22:47

Request referral now esp S you have had cookie in past

bugsylugs · 29/01/2012 22:49

Haa has b phone ask for referral now especially as you have had clomid. Usual waiting time does not apply to those with history of fertility issues.

PreHeatedOven · 30/01/2012 08:39

I'll be requesting referral to be brought forward to now when I speak to her tomorrow. I also was going to ask for day21 test to be repeated.
DS was also a miracle in the sense he was conceived in the cycle before IVF started.

Thanks for all your advice, mumsnet is great for things like this!

It might not be much help but my gp says it is not worth doing a 21 day test on me as being pcos I don't follow the rules. I have been tested for testosterone levels and thyroid levels, and have been put on a course of metformin to help with regulating things. Next step is clomid but gp wants to wait a bit. I also have dc1 but with no help although things were majorly complex - nothing goes according to rule with me! I don't know what to suggest really but would consider speaking to another doctor to see if the opinion is different.
