Specialist vits for conception - are they any good?

Has anyone tried and would you recommend the specialist pre conception vitamins - I'm already taking Folic Acid, but i dont know if i should replace this with pregnacare or something similar.

I got pregnant last year through IVF - sadly it didn't progress past week 7 but we are going to try again in a couuple of months with one of frozen embies.

I just dont know whether the specialist vitamins for conception are worth a try... Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

There is a 'what supplements are you taking' thread somewhere.

I take the conception supplement from Boots. Can't do any harm I guess and anything that increases your chances are good.

I believe they definitely helped me conceive (and not miscarry) this time around. I think, in particular, in was the B vitamins and vitamin D (for me)

There is a really good thread on fertility friends about supplements during IVF (Zita West also talks about them, and accupunture in her book).

Hi, I took Zita west vitafem hen I was trying to conceive, they have folic acid in along with other vitamins and minerals that are supposed to prepare the body for pregnancy and enhane fertilty, I was using a sperm donor so tried to do everything I could to help! Not sure how helpful it is but sometimes just feeling like you are doing something helps the frustration! I bought them from Pride Angel they have an online shop (the link is www.prideangel.com/p14/shop.aspx ) Hope this helps at the least it will provide a bit of research! Good luck xx

Thank you do much for your replies. I'll continue to do a bit of research - will also ask my consultant what she recommends. But these vits can only help, surely... Grin

Hi, I'm taking sanatogen mother to be vitamins with folic acid. Asda currently have loads of vitamins on offer, these are included any 3 tubs for £10

Both dh and I are taking the nhp ones (male/female fertility, omega and vit c) which is quite pricey for all four but helpedy dh's SA results and havehped regulate my cycle - I even 'testsd' this end of last year as stopped taking them regularly for a month for various reasons and cycle was very long again and then when restarte taking them regularly all was back to normal.

Hi I don't know if it helps you but I did a research on taking vit B6 to lengthen the luteal phase. It seems that vit B6 can help with it. You need to have 10 or more days of your LP to carry on with the pregnancy. I've been taking my vits for the last 3 months and normally I'd ovulate 14 days before my period but since taking them the length of my LP increased to 16 days! I'm taking tesco's vitamins. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, what a knowledgeable bunch you are.

Any thoughts in vits for ivf particularly FET? Just wondered if there's anything to help these 'assisted conception' scenarios...

Zita West does Vitafem and you can take the Vitafem Boost for extra help (see her website).

There is LOTS of useful info on www.fertilityfriends.co.uk but you need to register
