Baby 2 after emcs?

I was desperate for baby 1 but went v. overdue, induction then emcs at 42+3. Felt really disappointed we didn't manage a natural birth. Now feel stuck and cannot decide whether to try for number 2 or not. Anyone else with similar experience/advice?

My DC1 was exactly the same as yours! Overdue, failed induction and EMCS at 42+3! However, although I had been planning a natural homebirth, I have to say I never felt disappointed in what happened, just a bit annoyed sometimes. DS is now 3 and I am 32 weeks pg with DC2. Next week I have to meet with my consultant to discuss VBAC vs ELCS and, in contrast to the first time and all my plans, I feel a bit like there's no point in making too many plans, a bit 'meh' almost. But I have always wanted a DC2 and with a complicated miscarriage inbetween, I am just very glad to have got to where I am.

Why do you think you aren't sure? You say you were disappointed with your birth but it sounds like more than that - do you feel a bit traumatised by it or scared in case it happens again? What do you think is holding you back?

Congratulations on the second pregnancy! You sound very happy, I'm pleased for you.

I think I was probably a bit traumatised. DC1 went into distress so it was a category 1 emcs. I didn't imagine it would happen like that, we'd had such a lovely pregnancy but the birth was awful and I didn't get to hold her for what seemed like ages afterwards. And she was all bruised so I felt dreadful.

I know what you mean about feeling there's no point in making too many plans. I didn't feel I had any control so not confident about getting pg again in case we end up with a repeat experience.

Do you know yet whether you're going to choose a vbac or elcs?

I will attempt VBAC but given that they won't let me go over 41 weeks this time, I just feel that an induction or ELCS will be inevitable (given that I went so overdue last time I just can't see me going into labour at

DC1 is 14 months, so now is about the time I originally planned to start TTC...

I think I would attempt VBAC too, but wouldn't want to go through induction again so would choose an ELCS in the event I went overdue - if the hospital let me.

I think I have to just try and get my head round it all. Don't feel ready yet though.

You never know, you could go into labour right on time with DC2!

Hi, I had a cat 1 EMCS with DD. It was disappointing and a bit traumatic but had a good ending. I figure we will just see how it goes, but like artifarti, will just focus on one thing at a time and see where it gets us. Good luck!
